Rib Tip

As I was riding by on the X2 I noticed that someone has stenciled something new on the window of a building on the (northwest) corner of 12th & H. It read (I think, I just caught a glimpse out the bus window) "Rib Tip Restaurant and Cafe." This is the first I've heard of this place (though I had seen the newspaper on the windows). It sounds like that if this place opens, you won't have to wait until Saturday & hit up the guys next to Mason's to get your rib fix.

At least now they are saying restaurant. On the first HSMS cleanup (March 2004?) Kevin Palmer talked to the owner of this building, who said he wanted to put in a carryout to leverage the success of Horace and Dickey's. I complained to KP then and there about not engaging him on the broader questions.

Great, like the scatter of chicken wing bones isn't enough. Now we can have ribs up and down the sidewalk of H Street too!

huh?? where is that chicken wing comment coming from? Sounds a bit racist to me... I love ribs and I promise that I will not throw a single bone on the sidewalk.
Funny thing is that I see lots of plastic water bottles and Starbuck coffee cups as litter, but no one makes comments like the one above about it.

The place does bill itself as a restaurant & cafe, so maybe it won't be so much for carry-out. I'd also like to point out that you can already ribs on H Street on Saturdays, but I have yet to notice any ribs lying on the ground. And the name is Definitely Rib Tip, not Rib Pit (I checked this morning).

I know exactly where the chicken wing comment is coming from, no racial connotations intended. Try walking a dog within 10 blocks of Popeyes or Cluck-U and you'll find out just how many chicken bones are lying around the sidewalks. Compared to other trash, there's no comparison. The dog does manage to snag a rib bone here and there too...but those are easier to pry out of its mouth.

I'm still hoping that this will be a sit down place so there won't be any issue with people discarding any kind bones, or other trash while walking down the street.

Another dog owner who hates bones.

There are plenty of bones on the ground. I wouldn't notice them either if I didn't have to pull them from my dogs mouth every ten feet on H Street.

Not sure what is racist about hating litter.

I also dislike all the fast food trash that litters the street.

As a dog owner, I too can speak to the many chicken wing bones that litter H Street and surrounding areas.

I never noticed it either until I got a dog and he finds them daily.
