A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Dry Cleaners for Sale

A couple of messages were left in the comments saying that the dry cleaners next to R. L. Christian Library (1300 block of H Street) is up for sale...for $700,000. Just in case you were temped to sink your hard earned dollars into this little safety glass clad beauty, I say CAVEAT EMPTOR! The buyer is to bear the cost of all enviromental liabilities (those nice dry cleaning chemicals that have polluted the area), and I don't think it will be cheap.

Inked, is there another drycleaner in the Near Northeast/Trinidad area? I'm looking at buying in near northeast (now live south of H) and one hesitation is the seeming lack of drycleaners and other services...
I'm a fan of your blogsite, too!

We have plenty of dry cleaners. I can think of at least 2 more on H Street & others nearby.

The one on H and 10th is great. Is that the one for sale? I hope now. They have a one day turn-around.

Do you mean the one at 11th & H Street? That one is not for sale. The one for sale is in the 1300 block of H Street.

Yes you're right. 11th and H. Great dry cleaner. Fast. And they do minor repairs as well.

How is H st ever going to get new development when people ask such prices for decrepit properties?

The tax assessment for 1308 H st NE is $200,840 for 2007. The asking price and tax assessment seem like a bit of a disconnect...

There are three drycleaners on H Street. There is one at the corner of H & 10th, Smile Cleaners in the Rite-Aid plaza (8th & H?)and the one up for sale. Of the three, the one in the 1300 block is the worst. They have the floor-to-ceiling bullet-proof glass, their store is very dingy and decrepit and are the least friendly. The other two are fast, efficient and very customer-service orientated, although Smile recently discontinued its 99-cent shirt deal.

The listing says "Selling 1306-08 together". Anon-- maybe you are only seeing half of the assessed value?
