This will be a very interesting debate, given Cobb's accusation today that Wells made a huge donation to Etherly right before Etherly endorsed Wells.

Tommy Wells' October 3rd $500 contribution to Curtis Etherly's campaign committee is recorded in Curtis Etherly's October 10th campaign finance
report -- provided officially by the Office of Campaign Finance. It is
available online at:
http://ocf.dc. gov/pdf_files/ EFS_generated/ PCC_06_173_ 2911_O_0_ 1.pdf

Look at contribution # 11 on page 5 of 11, and marked "3 of
3."

Well, now that I look at it, I don't see what the big deal is. Mr. Wells answered this pretty well last night, and his campaign chair also responded on VOTH chat room this morning. In summary from his post:

The Wells campaign gave contributions after his September 12th victory to help several Democrats retire their debt: Mary Cheh in Ward 3 and Harry Thomas, Jr. in Ward 5. They haven't been in Ward 6 campaigning and haven’t endorsed him, but he still gave to Democrats. And note that Adrian Fenty recently gave Mr. Wells his enthusiastic endorsement, but Mr. Wells didn't make a contribution to Mr. Fenty.

When the Democratic voters of the District of Columbia gave Tommy Wells their overwhelming support in every precinct and every part of the Ward to make him their nominee, Tommy became the leader of the Democratic Party in Ward 6. As leader, he opened up to help Democrats retire their campaign debts. It's a sign of a strong party that works together for all of DC.

Yep. Business as usual, we are suppose to believe that Cheh & Thomas will not beholden to Wells and won't owe him a favor or two. I wonder if Marion Barry was giving way 500 dollar bills if people would feel the same way.
