Progress @the Rib Tip

IMG_0416

I've noticed some activity at the Rib Tip (corner of 12th & H Street) in recent days. It looks like they are getting close on the inside (the newspaper was off the front door, and I think -I was on a bus one day- that they have replaced this window. At any rate, wouldn't it be nice to have another place on H Street where you can sit down and eat?

YES!

Whatever happened to the Beehive? It seems to have gone into suspended animation.

(sorry, the "YES!" was an emphatic answer to your question)

We'll get the Beehive eventually. I believe the current project is Dr.Granville's (1338 H Street), and it will take a lot of work. That, and the Pug seems to be slowly, but surely working its way towards completion.

Does anyone know more about the Rib Tip? Who the owner is? What to expect? I hope it will be as good as it sounds

Is this gonna be a barbeque place?

DC's great for a lot of things, but BBQ ain't one of them. Here's hoping the cook knows his way around a smoker.

By the way, it's the corner of 12th and H, not 13th.

Yes, 12th & H (across from Horace and Dickie's), not 13th & H. Sorry about that.

Did Taste of Jamaica ever put in tables, or do they still have a cavernous front room with no seating?

Unfortuately Taste of Jamaica still has the empty room and bullet proof glass.

And of course T of J has a restaurant Certificate of Occupancy -- even thought they are operating as a carry-put business. When Stanton Park Neighborhood Association dropped their protest, T of J said they would implement changes to conform to the definition of a restaurant. However, since DCRA is not even trying to enforce that section of the code – they will more than likely continue to operate as a carry-put business. Apparently, there is no desire over in ANC 6C to investigate this or follow-up with DCRA. And H Street Main Street is more the satisfied, and as demonstrated, that they would rather have any business than no business on H Street.

It will be interesting to see what business model Rip Tip uses. I hope it will be a restaurant.

I need to get a closer look, but I think I saw something that might be part of a booth in there. The owner did previously (a while back) tell me he was planning to open a sit down restaurant.

Fengler's right on target.

With everything that's going on, perhaps a 'restaurant commission' could be established just to take care of the H Street eateries.

Seems that ANC's may have their hands full.....
