Vendors, Music & Green Buildings

What's the connection? They all may featuring more prominently in our daily lives in the DC.
Metro is cautiously looking at allowing some musicians, actors, and mimes to perform outside some metro stations during certain hours of the day. DC is also planning to allow more street vendors in the city. Many are hopeful that this could lead to a diversification in food items available from those little carts. And DC continues to move closer to mandating green construction for some buildings. I'd say that all of these are positive trends (even if I think they may be being a little to conservative with the Metro performances).

Just playing devils advocate: The air-tight windows in 'green' buildings will certainly save energy. Unfortunately, they also do a good job sealing in stale air. This can lead to problems with [toxic] mold growth, and exacerbate IEQ issues due to construction material outgasses. The mold problems are particularly troublesome in areas of high moisture/humidity - like DC.

As usual, it's probably best if politicians don't mandate 'solutions' in areas they don't fully comprehend.

I defininately agree with you that Metro is being conservative.... Although the commenters over at the Washington Post seem to think it will worsen the "unbearable, crowded, noisy commute"..... I think its people like that that make the transformation of this city happen more slowly.... I think that Metro could be a lot more interesting though...... I'm glad about the vendors situation as well.....

Is it affordable enough to construct the green building over the traditional one's?
