Spoke with the owner of ANM over the weekend and he told me that they are working on opening an Ethiopian restaurant upstairs.

Has anyone had one of their sandwiches yet? If they're good, I'd love to swing by there and pick up something for lunch on my way to work in the morning.

Can't really tell from the pictures, but are the blue grates on the windows a permanent feature? I just can't bring myself to patronize places that look like they're gated up and closed even when they're open

I had a sandwich there last week. I thought it was pretty good. Worth giving it a try.
BTW are there any other long-standing businesses on the street who do deli sandwiches, that sort of thing?
Oh, one other random note...that Tropacana eatery...was sitting in Napa and looked across the street at it and I think I saw a stop-work on it. Was at Napa for Sunday brunch...which was really good. We had the french toast and Moroccan eggs. Both dee-lish and I *love* their coffee.

any idea on the hours of the deli?
Mar 31, 2008, 2:30:00 PM
Kricker, the blue grates are permanent, but they've been there for a while. It isn't something the business owner added.
Rob, I've never eat there, but you might want to try out
Grace Deli at 701 H Street. The menu has corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, so that is probably as close to deli as you can get on H.

Rob, Inked:
I get coffee and sandwiches (BLT, pastrami, etc) from Grace Deli all the time. I give it two thumbs up. Give it a shot.

I had a grilled veggie sandwich from ANM last weekend. It was hearty and tasty! I''ll definitely be back for more.
Mar 31, 2008, 4:42:00 PM
Stopped into ANM and grabbed a BLT - apparently a very popular choice today, according to the owner.
It was a bit heavy on the bread and the bacon was overcooked/burnt, but it was a decent sandwich for $4.59. They're doing a different sandwich special everyday for $3.99, with chips and a soda for $4.99. I'm looking forward to trying more.

Abraham, one of the owners, brought us a bunch of sandwich samples at lunchtime last week. The veggie was tasty. They are really nice people and I hope they do well.

Grates may have already been there, but doesn't make me want to go in. If a place is barred up and looking like it is expecting trouble, it's going to have trouble attracting customers. Come on, people. This isn't a shoot-em-up neighborhood. If you open up a new shop, open it up. Make it look open. Feel open.
I wish them well, but won't be going until it looks like I am welcome.
Apr 2, 2008, 9:33:00 PM
Agreed, I am not going to a place that has grates on the windows.
