A Note About ANM

I stopped by H Street's newest convenience and deli earlier today for a sandwich [the tuna, which was quite good and 4 dollars], and I was surprised to see that they also sell bags of injera [the Ethiopian bread]. ANM is located at 1363 H Street. Stop by and check them out if you haven't been by. They have lots of basics and they also feature a wide selection of ice cream novelties. The early morning / late night hours also make ANM an attractive option.

Here's an update from the West end of the street.

1. Fitness Together, a new personal fitness studio next to Bikram Yoga appears to be open.

2. There seems to be life in the Landmark Lofts - up to 6 units now visibly occupied.

3. Pap n Petey's continues to improve their offerings. New wines are in place, as well as drink specials, live music and rumor is that food and outdoor seating are in the works. However, patronage appears spotty.

4. Noveau Fleur has reopened after a few weeks closed. A new awning and outdoor lighting are visible. There are also plans for outdoor classes in the works.

5. A building permit appeared on the door of the former market on the Soutwest corner of 4th and H. Rumors here are of a forthcoming market/deli. No word on their plans for Ethiopian bread.

6. The work on the Southwest corner of 6th and H appears spotty. No word on the promised sports bar.

7. Work is underway on the northside of the 400 block of H in the space formerly occupied by "Hair Force." The plywood recently came off the windows revealing the military-themed hair cuttery. No word on whether Code Pink plans to protest.

8. Finally, the mysterious building on the northeast corner of 4th and H has a new paintjob.

I stopped by ANM Saturday around
12:30 AM. I had the Italian cold cut sandwich, best sandwich I've had in a while. I also like the late hours on the weekend. They are very convenient.

I hate that they painted over the mural on the NE corner of 4th and H. I always assumed it was a young Michael and Janet Jackson, but was never sure...
