Police Shooting on 7th

Officers responded this morning to a call reporting an assault in progress. When they arrived a man attacked an officer with a knife and pole. At least one of the two officers opened fire. The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Police entered the residence, which is a group home for mentally ill individuals, and discovered a stabbing victim. The shooting victim is the prime suspect in the stabbing. This occurred in the 800 block of 7th Street. No word yet on the condition of the stabbing victim, except that he, was being treated at a local hospital.

UPDATE

Apparently the earlier reports were wrong. The shooting victim died at the scene, and his body was only recently removed from the group house. Chief Lanier says officers fired one shot at the man.

Or maybe he died at the hospital.

Anyone know who owns or runs this house?

Jason Cherkis as the Washington City Paper seems to be following this story quite a bit more closely than the other news outlets I've read.

He put up a rather detailed writeup at 8:35 tonight.

As a neighbor, I'm really eager to learn more about who owns and runs this place and why it was allowed to get into the condition that Cherkis describes in his article.
