Join Friends of J.O. Wilson volunteers, school parents, staff and neighbors, the Washington- Ireland Program, and members of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church on January 19, 2009 for a National Day of Service in honor of the Inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama to clean out storage areas and help organize the school’s library media center!

I'm not sure what anon meant in response to your previous post, but there's several events in the Frozen Tropics neighborhood this weekend. My best bet would be to just contact whatever groups you normally donate your time/money to. But there is also this handy link: www.usaservice.org. Just type in the 20002 zip code and at least two events come up, as well as many more within 2 miles of 20002. Finally, at least one of the churchs on I St (I think the one at 9th and I, maybe) has something on their sign about volunteering this weekend.
Greater DC Cares also has an annual day of service on MLK Day Monday, although I think they may be full for this year. More information is available at http://www.dc-cares.org/.
There is a poster about a service event at the Kingman Island Nature area (just North of RFK) on Monday the 19th from 10am - 2pm. I believe it said they would be picking up trash and cutting back invasive plants. A group will meet at the Stadium/Armory metro station at 9:30 and will walk over to the site.
