“New Music for a New Age” - Featuring the works of Trevor Weston

The Washington Chorus and new Music Director Julian Wachner present the first concert of a new series at the Atlas Performing Arts Center

Washington, D.C. – Julian Wachner, new Music Director of Grammy® Award winner

The Washington Chorus (TWC), will lead a small ensemble from the chorus in the first of a new series of programs featuring the work of living American composers. TWC inaugurates this New Music for a New Age series on Wednesday, March 11 at 8:00 PM at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in the vibrant H Street corridor in Northeast DC.

This “downtown” series will explore both choral and instrumental contemporary music
and each year focus on an individual composer. This year’s performance features an eclectic program of works by award-wining African-American composer Trevor Weston. TWC is joined by the Congressional Chorus, under the direction of Artistic Director David Simmons,and soprano Julieanne Klein, with chamber instrumental ensemble and solo cello. Featured works include Ashes for antiphonal choruses, commissioned to commemorate the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Commentary by Julian Wachner and Trevor Weston rounds out this unique and
sophisticated program.

About Trevor Weston

Trevor Weston is an Associate Professor of Music at the College of Charleston. Weston’s
musical education began at St. Thomas Choir school in NYC at the age of ten. He attended Tufts University where he studied composition with T. J. Anderson and completed a double major in Music and History. At the University of California, Berkeley, Trevor Weston completed his M.A. and Ph. D. studying composition with Richard Felciano, Andrew Imbrie and Olly Wilson, his primary teacher. His honors include the George Ladd Prix de Paris, the selection of his composition Bleue for the Detroit Symphony Unisys African-American Composer’s reading program, the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the MacDowell Colony. Mr. Weston has completed numerous commissions including works for St. Thomas Church Choir,
The Starling Chamber Orchestra, Mallarme Chamber Players, The Providence Singers, The
Carolina Chamber Chorale, and The Charleston Chamber Players. His music has been
performed in Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in SC.

Founded in 1961 as the Oratorio Society of Washington, The Washington Chorus, now under the baton of Music Director Julian Wachner, presents an annual subscription series at the Kennedy Center, the Music Center at Strathmore and other major concert venues in the greater Washington area.
