March Madness @Pap & Petey's
It's where the West End ... begins!
I'm not sure who else on H Street is doing the March Madness thing, but I do know that the Argonaut has purchased the full package.

A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Not exactly related, but please consider taking part in Earth Hour. We just had a very successful one in Wellington (8:30 PM on Saturday March 28). Lights out!

The renovated space really does feel a lot warmer, and the addition of draft beer and "real" food is great (try the sliders). The Thursday night Brazilian Jazz is very nice.

DC is asking for suggestions on how to use stimulus money.
This could be a chance to speed up streetcar progress by years.
Please urge DC to get the H St streetcar running, and to take it all the way across town via a K Street Transitway.

Nice to see the Web site finally back. before the renovation, with it down, I stopped going because I never knew what would be going on. Tried calling but never got an answer/voicemail. Can't wait to try again though, very optimistic.

First experience at Pap & Petey's tonight and I must tell you I don't intend on going back. We ordered 2 sets of sliders which came about 40 minutes later - the waitress/bartender took one of the orders away, brought it to other patrons and said that our other order would be there in a minute. 30 minutes later we were still waiting. Had to ask someone else about it. Then, she told us twice that we wouldn't be charged for the second order and charged us! I asked about the bill and then it was removed. The manager seemed more interested in entertaining the single female patrons than running a tight ship. Too bad, they have a nice space. I hope that the owners read this blog and take a hard, critical look at their operations.

Anon 8:36,
I had a similar experience with the sliders. I did not feel like waiting for them to show and asked for my check and to not charge me for the sliders. They didn't charge me for the food but the one bartender harassed me for it.
This is not Dukes place anymore. I believe he was bought out.

I think Duke is still involved, but he brought in other investers. He was there talking to patrons when I stopped by on a recent Thursday night.

Duke is still involved. Gretchen is right. He just brought in new partners. I hope the previous commenter (836) pointed out the error on the bill to the bartender. Sometimes that stuff can slip through by mistake.
I have tried the sliders, and I was very happy with them. I will say that a friend of mine had the veggie burger (which was tasty), but the "natural vegetable" that came with it was fries. It his case that was a plus because he isn't much of one for green stuff. But it's something to be aware of when making a menu selection.

Went to Pap and Petey’s recently and was disappointed. My husband and I went multiple times before the renovations. The lack of draft beer before was a real negative for us and the décor was mediocre. We love the renovation. It made the small space much more modern. Our waitress/bartender was beyond pleasant, but that’s about where it ended. We love that they have beer on tap now, but they were out of Allagash when we were there. The bar was very warm and had a strong odor of fried food. The previous poster was correct; the manager was much more interested in hitting on a woman than on running an efficient bar. In the past he was very social and thanked people for coming to the bar. My husband was very conscious of the fact that manager and the woman he was pursuing continuously looked at our small party. I also think there was a definitive segregation within the bar which seems to be at odds with the direction of H St. I think this is a pipe dream and I have serious doubts of the success of this bar with such poor management. It’s a shame because I love development on the east end of H St. I will give Pap and Petey’s one more shot.
