So is it too much to hope that, since (i) these guys are presumably not going to have to go through the ABC process, (ii) would presumably have a more limited building inspection, and (ii) the place is already built, that we could expect this place to open in (relatively) short order?
Yes, PLEASE have good hashbrowns - fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside shreds of potato are entirely too hard to find in this town. In some restaurants you'll order hash browns and get Home Fries. Other restaurants serve hash browns that are pressed into a hockey puck you could chip a tooth on.
Second the hash browns over homefries. Boiled potatoes pushed through a cheese grater and set to cook slow in some nice bacon drippings. A factfinding mission to Waffle House is in order. Scattered and smothered, please.
Like Anonymous 5/22@4:42, I too am disappointed at the poor level of customer service displayed by this unnamed diner. I also expect the prices will be a little high for my taste.
Actually I am hoping the diner will serve diner food but with better ingredients...good bread, good coffee, egg dishes made with good eggs...
Is it too much to ask for biscuits? Or grits from real stone ground corn and not the instant white paste that most places serve?
It doesn't have to go full yuppie but we actually already have a few places to get bad breakfast food on the Hill, Jimmy T's has to be the most overrated place (except for the pancakes, those are good) Pete's Diner on 3rd is also pretty disappointing...
I can get bad coffee, bad potatoes and wimpy toast any number of places, I hope this diner gives me a reason to leave my own kitchen.
You should subscribe to their twitter feed. Either that or email the guys direct. They're at diner@capitalcitydiner.com.
They've given every indication that they don't intend to go full yuppie. I'm not expecting a clone of The Diner in Adams Morgan. They'll probably be more like the Tastee Diner in Silver Spring.
Hashbrowns? That's something you get at McDonalds not from a diner. Home fries are real potatoes with onions and peppers fried in bacon grease on the griddle. This building came from NY only real home fries will suffice.

Um, what did the 4:42 post have to do with customer service? Looks like just trying to find information on the diner's expected timing.
