Who is Trey Joyner and what is a Repass?

Tom A. said...

from urban dictionary:

Repass: See repast. Common misuse of the word "repast".

There will be a repass (repast) at the deceased's parents' home following internment.

PS: If I'm ever shot and killed in an alley, please bring better food than Popeye's or the Safeway deli. Thanks.

Tom,
there's that, but there is also the other definition of to pass again. I suspect this is most likely a reference to the first definition, but repass is the colloquial version in some regions of the US.

Trey Joyner is the man who was shot by Park Police recently.

Tom you are an elitist. I hope they have some Popeye's at my funeral/wake!

Will there be a police presence?

Tom,
I know you're trying to be funny, but this is the reception for someone's funeral. Cant we just lay off for one day regardless of the circumstances? The food listed above is what Blacks typically serve at a repass. You must remember that Blacks werent always apart of the middle class and couldnt always afford the type of "better food" that would maybe be served at your repass.

yeah so anyway, does anyone know if plans for the streetscape renovations are available online?

The location of where the tracks are being laid seems odd to me, or at least different than I expected. Where will the "stops" be?

How about these?

--- I don't know about anyone else, but I find this comment to be unnecessary after you just asked people to lay off despite the circumstances.
I have been to many services like this, and have never been served the same thing. All were Black services, and never once was someone bold enough to make the suggestion that the food being served was not good enough or up to par.
Maybe whoever put together the service wanted some quick, easy food for everyone in attendance. There's no need for such extravagant foods. In my experiences, a repass is for family and friends to get together and find comfort in each other, not to stuff their faces with prime rib and dainty quiches. In no way did I get the impression that requesting such foods was in any way mediocre standards, or such typical fare of Blacks.
Being able to afford better food than what Tom A. would like at his repass has nothing to do with monetary status or being black. Who wants to be bothered with cleaning up and washing dishes when a family is in grieving?
Maybe it was just me, but that comment seemed completely unnecessary, downright rude and ignorantly stereotypical.

Anon 6:04,

I have no idea what you're saying. In the beginning it seems like you disagree with my point, but as your argument rambles on its almost as though you agree with me. Bottom line - chicken from Popeyes (or somewhere similar) is common - I've seen it served at many repasses that i've been to. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it - in fact it is preferable for the reasons you list. My point to Tom A was that there is nothing to be made light of in this situation.

Thanks for the links Derek (I think one of them must have been taken down).

Has it been determined how these street cars are going to be powered? Did the city give in to the overhead lines or are they building the power into the tracks? Will personal vehicles share the lanes that the street cars will drive down?

Anonymous said...

It's not the city that has to give in to the overhead lines -- it's a Federal law that's the issue.

VOTH had an article this week saying that the decision on how to power the streetcars had not been settled.

Anon 4:27,

Thanks and this is what I find especially interesting. How are they laying tracks right now if they don't even know what type of system is going in?

And for the record, I'm not complaining that they're doing stuff, that's great, it just seems so weird that they're moving forward while major decisions and direction haven't been reached.

And they didn’t even mention Trinidad?!?!? I am sure someone will complain now that we don’t get considered as much as Columbia Heights for this article.

I think it is bullshit that an elected offical is donating anything to the "party" even if it is just paper products. The reps for this city need to realize that involving yourself in situations where there is still an on going investigation of a man who was shooting at the police is a bad political move.
