Pedestrian Hit By Bus in Trinidad

A bus struck a pedestrian near Montello and Mt. Olivet Road about 6:30 tonight. No word in the Post on the victim's condition, but I heard from a source that she was not breathing. Fox News says she was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Apparently she had just gotten off the D8, and was attempting to cross the street when a second Metro Bus hit her.

Off topic: anyone know why there is a helicopter circling approximately 2 blocks around 6th and H right now (3:30 am) and has been doing so for 10-15 minutes?

I heard it too. It flew with no spot light on for twenty min or so. Something happened at heckinger mall at 1030 pm with mpd and helo. Maybe connected.

I heard it also. It flew around for quite a while. You can ask the MPD-1 and MPD-5 listserv, but you likely get an answer along the lines of "I don't know, I dont have a record of anything occurring at that time" and then you will get flamed by some wanna be listserv boss that you should not ask these type of questions because you are wasting the police officers time.As if, you don't have right to know why you got woke up by a low flying ghetto bird, or that a bunch of police cars just swarmed around a car on your street.

Since we can't get information,it time for everyone to get a scanner, and their own gun?

The article says that the man was shot at 9:40 pm -- right next to those lovely Pentacle apts.
Yet the chopper started flying low and in circles at around 3:30 am.
Whats up with the time diff.?

Its possible the police found and were chasing the perps later that evening (and if so, I applaud that) but why would you need to have a chopper flying low and in circles for 15-20 minutes over a residential neighborhood? In the middle of the night? On a school night?

I think somebody needs to dress down whoever that pilot was.

WMATA - Helping you get through life faster!

Seriously, these bus drivers are out of control and have been for a long time. Try driving or biking on any major bus route and you see that they are the most aggressive drivers on the road. They regularly run red-lights, cut off bikers and drivers and are generally boorish behind their big wheels.

I'm hoping we start seeing some criminal penalties against these licensed killers so they start to think about the consequences.

I heard the helicopter intermittently from about 11 PM - 1AM in far NE (17th & C). There were also about 2 hours of solid police sirens. I assume this was all related to the homicide at 15th & Benning Road last night.

it was a D8 bus, not a D6 that struck that poor woman.

And I almost always walk past the Pentacle Apts at 9:40 on Mondays evenings following a rehearsal at the Atlas that ends at 9:30.

YIKES.

While I can't speak to the helicopter circling at 3:30am, I can share that I heard multiple gunshots last night some time after 9:30 (article says 9:40)--and heard and saw a helicopter circling overhead not long after. The helicopter circled intermittently until at least midnight.

Before we call for the pilot's head, perhaps we could consider that these are separate incidents?

Grocery Store and Apartments Coming to H St NE
http://dcmud.blogspot.com/2009/10/grocery-store-and-apartments-coming-to.html

About Steuart's plans for 3rd and H. "Steuart will go back before the Zoning Commission November 30th to request several changes to the original plans, reducing the number of stories from eight to six and removing one level of parking. ... However, Steuart said his group will not move forward with construction until a grocer is signed on for the retail space. He affirmed discussions with a full-service grocer, but was unwilling to disclose which one."

On a related note, does anyone know the status of the development planned for the block between F and G and 2nd and 3rd?

People, let's not all pretend that it isn't more than possible that this pedestrian ran out into the street. I could drive down H street any time of day or night (going the speed limit) and hit a pedestrian if I wasn't careful. Some people didn't learn about looking both ways before crossing the street when they were 4 years old.

Rule number one when crossing the street after getting off the bus or getting out of any big vehicle, always walk behing the vehicle you're exiting. It makes it easier to see on coming traffic and for on coming traffic to see you. Clearly this person did not see the bus and the bus did not see them. I think this was a legitimate mistake. Not another Metro blunder.
