Shooting @14th & Maryland

It happened around 7:30pm (but police remained on the scene for quite a while afterward). The victim, a male who had been shot in the chest, made it to the Checkers. He was transported to the hospital.

Channel reports in its literally titled (possibly inappropriately titled story): Man Goes to Checkers After Being Shot  Did Victim Seeks Aid at Checkers not get the same laughs? I don't know what's up with that title, but it seems a little off.

If anyone has more details, or can confirm the man's death, or survival, please do so in the comments.

I haven't heard any reports on the victim's condition. I think the report of his death may have been exaggerated.

The increase in shootings and muggings in our area recently is really disturbing. I thought we may have been turning a corner over the past few years, but I'm getting worried.

Wow. I walked to the Argonaut last night at about 8:30 and saw a cop car, a few cops and a spotlight trailer there. That was it. I thought it was possibly a DUI checkpoint or something. I'm not seeing anything about it in the media. Just Frozen Tropics and News Channel 8. Lame. Definitely would like to see some follow up.

I'll tell you what - Checkers has some mean buffalo wings. If I'd been shot and felt I was likely going to die within sight of one - I'd probably make the effort to enjoy a favorite food before I go.

Seriously though - how is it possible that people get away with these random shootings? It's like collective willful suspension of disbelief - how is no one ever gets tackled by bystanders or at least followed by someone with a cellphone calling the cops? Even if it was a drive-by there should at least be two or three people calling in with vehicle makes and models if not a license plate?

As long as people accept levels of violence and criminality as being tolerable it will continue to occur.

1) Temp tags.
2) Dealer tags.
3) Stolen car.

I was walking home about 7:15-7:30 ish up Maryland when what appeared to be half the metro dc police capacity started coming to that area from every direction. I saw at least 5 or 6 police cars, a fire engine and an ambulance race up the street. It was, to say the least, not a comforting sign to come home to...

THANK YOU so much for your blog. We live in the neighborhood and the only reason we thought to look up anything online is because we saw police tape on our way home. Your blog is how we have gotten our news of two fatal shootings on that block this year. The news doesn't care. Apparently, they are over it. Thanks for staying on top of things
