A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

On the Western Front..

IMG_4235

I'm hearing two exciting things:

1. In the next few weeks Sidamo will roll out their newest offering, individually brewed cups of coffee. You'll be able to choose from 8-10 types of beans, which they will then grind on the spot, put it in a filter, and then pour the water through it. Cool, no?

2. Ethiopic is getting damn close to opening. I'm talking maybe less than a month.

We went to get sandwiches at Taylor today and saw that Liberty Tree had their menu in the window, tables set, and the fire burning. It looks really good! I ogled the menu for a bit, and a woman walked in and said they would be open in about a week. I am looking forward to it!

I don't see how Ethiopic will be open in a month as they still have sign that says Institute of behavioral Changes and Research, Inc. (401 H st). Besides I never saw anyone doing any work inside the building.

Poo,
I'm told they have the tables inside.

I hope for their own sakes they spruce up the exterior a little before opening. The front of that place does not exactly say 'Welcome!' at the moment...

When I walked by today, there were a few guys outside working on the awning... they said it would be open in a couple weeks.

My girlfriends and I were walking back from Sidamo when we were invited in by the owner. The inside looks amazing. It looks like they will be working on the outside as soon as the weather permits. Can’t wait!

I don't understand what is special about the single cup brew thing. Isn't all coffee ground up....and then put into a filter and then hot water added?

Anon, when you go to almost any coffee shop for a cup of drip coffee--whether it's Starbucks, Dunkin', Sova, Sidamo, etc.--you get recently-brewed coffee out of an airpot that contains several cups' worth of coffee. It's good, but it's not as fresh as if you were drinking an individually-brewed cup of joe. That's what it sounds like Sidamo is offering, and it sounds very enticing. Sidamo and Sova have been two of my favorite additions to H Street.

dont get it twisted. the brewed-just-for-you coffe is Qualia Coffee's original method. Obviously they didnt invent it, but i think they were the first to do it in the DC area. For one heck of a cup of coffee take a trip up to Georgia Ave and visit Qualia. Micro-roasted right there, ground and brewed just for you, Joel and his crew can't be beat.
