An H Street Wedding

I've heard of people have different portions of their weddings/celebrations on H Street (I think you can now even get married at Palace of Wonders), and now I have a request for reader suggestions:

Hey there,

My fiancée and I really enjoy reading your posts at Frozen Tropics, and when we decided that we'd make our wedding an H Street event, we immediately realized that you might have ideas about the subject:

We're looking to celebrate our wedding next spring in H Street, or at the very least to have our wedding reception somewhere in the neighborhood. Do you have any ideas of a place that could accomodate about a hundred people who want to dance, drink, and have a good time?
Our usual haunts -- The Argonaut, Sticky Rice, the Martini Lounge, etc. -- seem like they'd be a little small for so many people dancing. Maybe the new Biergarten Haus could accomodate us... Do you have any thoughts or tips on the matter?

By the way, we're not looking for anything crazy or fancy; instead we just want to find some nice place that captures the independence and funky spirit of H Street.

Just in terms of sheer space he'd be looking at  Biergarten Haus, The Rock and Roll Hotel, The H Street Country Club, XII, or the Atlas (if they do that sort of thing).  Of course to make it a really H Street wedding you could have flowers from Nouvelle Fleur, catering from a local place, ect. Any advice for the soon to be married who love living in the H Street Corridor?

Try the H Street Playhouse. You can search for available rental dates and rates on their website: www.hstreetplayhouse.com.

The Playhouse also does rentals. I'm not sure about capacity.

When my now Husband and I were looking at H st venues we really liked Rock and Roll hotel. They were reasonably priced and they'd let us rent the entire top floor. We also looked at the club on the corner of H and 12th, but they were prohibitivly expensive. We also liked the Atlas because they rent out individual rooms. We also floated the idea of doing a pre wedding cocktail hour at the Argo or pug.

I'd think the upstairs of the H street County Club would be terrific. Wedding guests playing putt-putt among iconic DC monuments...

By next spring, both the H Street Country Club and Rock and Roll Hotel will have roof decks that will accommodate 100 people.

I am sure we could arrange a rock and roll or mini-golf wedding. Tell us your date and let's see what we can work out.

The Atlas has several different spaces that can be used. Let me know if/when you want to come by for a tour.

Exciting! Congratulations!

It would be cool if H street businesses would work together to help you through an "H Street Wedding." I.e. if wherever you choose would allow you to bring Dangerously Delicious pies into the venue for desert. You could do dance lessons from Joy of Motion on H Street's location. Cocktails in one bar (i.e. upstairs at H Street Country Club) and dinner elsewhere (i.e. have an H street restaurant cater dinner at the H Street Playhouse). Any H street photographers? Flowers from Nouveau Fleur. Rehearsal dinner at Ethiopic? Or Liberty Tree? Hire a small local band that plays on H Street a lot?

Hey there, neighbor! I'm a local photographer (7th and Orleans), and I'd love to shoot the ceremony and revelry right in my own hood!

You could get catering from Napa 1015 or serve Taylor Gourmet sandwiches. They do dance lessons at Ebeneers (which isn't exactly H St) or maybe at Joy of Motion. Dangerously Delicious Pies or Curbside Cupcakes could provide the cake. We had Sidamo coffee at our wedding. Get in shape at Total Fitness or Bikram. Can't wait to see pictures of this!!
