The Hill Raves Over Liberty Tree

A glowing review for the new restaurant.

I ate there with a friend this weekend. I agree w/ the review...the tables are close enough that it didn't take much effort to peek at others' dishes.
I don't think the review is glowing, it's positive. That was my feeling. The pizza was good enough. The goat cheese & ??? appetizer was tasty, but not amazing.
The thing about this place is that the prices are right. So even though the food doesn't blow you away, neither does the bill. We left with the feeling that we'd gotten decent food and value for our money...a good combo I think.

BTW we skipped dessert in order to try out Dangerously Delicious.

I have to say, the two types of pie we had, the chocolate & peanut butter and the pecan were *definitely* a couple of notches above store bought. I saw the value..each one conveyed to us that the recipe had been tried over and over until perfected. Great ambiance, too. So glad to have this place in the neighborhood.

The pies are very good at DDP'S.

Liberty Tree is worth checking out, but not for the pizza. The pizza is good, but there are plenty of other things on the menu that outshine it. The steak, entree salads, the pasta dishes...

The Liberty Tree menu is not cutting edge. It is very likable, though. More importantly, the strength here is that the kitchen executed our dishes extremely well... perhaps the most polished execution on H Street. Plus, there are some pleasant surprises here and there (the Brazilian sausage in the pigs in a blanket is just the right amount of spicy, for instance). All done at a very reasonable price, considering, as Rob said. (The prices are very competitive with other places nearby (which I like, too)). The wine list is good and I can find a beer on tap that I like.

On my visits, the service was attentive and very friendly but not intrusive. The atmosphere seems more polished than the other H Street food options, but it is not at all uppity or stuffy. On a Friday night, all but one table was taken. On a weekend afternoon, only a few tables were full.

If I had to sum up what I thought of Liberty Tree in one word, it would be "Suprise!" In a good way, of course.
