Fatal Stabbing on Simms Place

Picture 5

A reader left the following comment:
I just wanted to make my neighbors aware of another sad murder in the neighborhood. A young man was stabbed to death at about 7:30 pm yesterday (6/7) in the 1200 block of Simms Pl. NE. It happened in front of one of the vacant/foreclosed buildings on the block where a large group gathers every afternoon to drink and smoke weed. Oh well...

I called MPD's public information line, and they confirmed that there was a fatal stabbing last night, and that the altercation began at this location. Apparently it then moved to another location in Trinidad. I don't know the other location. The MPD investigation is still preliminary, but they hope to issue a release soon.

This is the first time in 20 months we've had a murder in Trinidad. I was looking forward to celebrating the two year mark.  I'll pass on more info as it becomes available.

Police have identified last night's stabbing victim as Jermaine Jones (36) of the 2000 block of Alabama Avenue SE. Police believe Jones was stabbed in the 1200 block of Simms Place, and then staggered to the 1700 block of Trinidad Avenue.
If you have information about the incident please call 1-888-919-CRIME (1-888-919-2746). Anonymous tips can be submitted via telephone at 1-866-411-TIPS (1-866-411-8477) or by sending a text message to 50411.

The Post crime blog covers the stabbing.

Hi: The altercation happened in front of 1277 Simms Pl. The victim staggered around the corner and bled out about half a block south on Trinidad Ave. 1277 Simms has been bank owned and unsecured for at least 2 years. There is a regular party in front of the building which starts in the late morning each day. Despite grass that is several feet high, the yard features a permanant (and frequently used) bar b que grill and assortment of chairs. The bathroom is directly across the street behind the dumpster.

Sad news. Well hopefully this doesn't lead to any more due to retaliation. I didn't realize that 20 months passed since the last murder

Has it seriously been 20 months since a Trinidad murder? That just doesn't seem possible.

maybe that's because your perception of crime in Trinidad is not that accurate. It's been 20 months.

I feel that because these people hang out . It is no reason for them to be killed. Everybody that wrote something negative in light of this young man's death, I am sure that you have a vice that either you practice in the light or the dark! The people have families and friends that care about them too! So to leave the remark "Oh well.." is hard to swallow! what if it were ur loved 1!
