Noteworthy on the West End

Two interesting developments relating to ANC 6C:

-Plans for Tru' Orleans, a Creole/Cajun style restaurant (400 H Street), cleared the 6C zoning committee and will come before the full commission for approval to add one level to the existing structure.

-Ethiopic Restaurant got the go ahead from the 6C public space committee a sidewalk cafe. Outdoor dining finally comes to the West end of the Corridor.

A little more info re: the conditional approval of plans for Tru' Orleans (from an email that I received):

They asked for support for three zoning issues (no loading zone, no off-street parking, and a minor increase in the commercial percentage of their FAR), we were generally in support of the relief with these caveats:

1) They are to show to us in the drawings how they plan to illuminate the alley behind the building where the loading will take place

2) They are to modify the plans to show how they plan to address the lack of design on the H Street facade. Right now it is merely a flat plain surface with a single window cut-out.

3) They are to either answer the questions of how their plans adhere to the H Street Overlay guidelines or 2) why they feel that they do not need to adhere to one or more of them.

Regarding point #3, the building fronts on 4th Street.

The West Side is (going to be) the best side!

I guess this isn't the restaurant/bar I thought it was. What is going in at the southwest corner of 5th and H? It's a pink facade with turquoise cutouts. It looks as though it's supposed to be a restaurant...

Lou,
sports bar I think.

The SW corner of 5th & H Streets is Toyland.
The SW corner of 6th & H Streets is suppose to be a sports bar. The owner has yet to discuss this with the ANC. At least that I know of.
