MPD Responds To Call For Nude People at Art Gallery

Apparently we've  reached the point that we don't have any real crime over here because 5th District Officers responded to a call about naked people at an art gallery. The three naked people (two women and a man) were part of an opening exhibit Saturday night at Conner Contemporary Art Gallery. The three people were "crawling" over "posing" with an overturned boat as part of the opening festivities. I'm told there was someone at the door to ensure that no unattended minors entered.  MPD responded to the call with three officers, and one entered to check on the situation. I'm told that the opening was wrapping, or had wrapped, at that point. The officers reportedly hung around and chatted with the local ANC rep. and other gallery goers (many of whom were neighborhood residents). There was no incident, and no arrests were made. But thank God we have an alert citizen out there on the watch for naked people engaged in performance art. After all, it's not like we in PSA 504 have to worry about break-ins, or muggings, or car thefts...right? Err, wait...

The gallery is private property, isn't it? On what grounds did the police even enter the building?

The police walked in the front door just like the rest of us. The event was open to the public, so no grounds needed to enter. It is not unusual to see police at the opennings for Connor or Industry galleries. They stop by as part of their rounds and chat with neighbors. I'd much rather the police be checking out performance art than shooting dogs.

Fair point.

What's funny (funny sad, not funny ha-ha) is that my friends and I came through the opening, went over to Liberty Tree for dinner and when we came back to the galleries to get our cars, heard about 6 gun shots a block away. No cops to be seen.

Are you sure they were gun shots? There has been a ridiculous amount of fireworks being set off in the neighborhood recently, and the kids have this one variety that sound a lot like ammunition.

After the football game ended last night, however, it sounded like some of the 'pops' might have been gunfire.

Ditto anonymous...I heard a lot of fireworks last night (I live 2 blocks from Connor). Many with rapid fire sound that could have sound like gunshots.

Not *hugely* surprising. If I were a cop, I'd rather be checking out naked people than reports of gunfire, too.

Depends on the naked people.....

Can we organize a community listening? I dont know the difference between gun shots and fireworks. Fireworks might have a more consistent period between pops, but I really dont know

i can't think of a more articulate way to say it than "gunshots seem to have more reverb"

also, a good tip is that gunshots also have the tendency to be followed by screams, running, moaning from the victims, and general chaos.

Don't third world people fire off their guns to celebrate activities, being too stupid to realize that what goes up must come down? Maybe we are seeing an influx of third world people.

Love that this made it into today's post.

When it happened, I actually asked my friends if it could be fireworks. They played their "We live in Eckington" card and pointed out they hear the shots fairly regularly (and have shown me the bullet holes in their living room walls). I took their word for it.

Y'know, ten or fifteen years ago, officers could get a twofer and get naked people with guns.
