I still haven't been to Sticky Rice because I've heard the service is bad and the sushi isn't really sushi, but WTF? Why would someone stab someone in a restaurant? Is Sticky Rice a club or a restaurant?

You gotta ask yourself what kind of a jackass carries a knife with him when he goes out for the evening. A guy like this is a menace and gets other people in trouble.
Do we need to get TSA inspectors at local restaurants to keep these morons out?

So now we've got sushi thugs stabbing each other on H street (sigh)!

people can stab or shoot someone anywhere. I'm not a fan of an automatic 96 hr shutdown for anyplace that has a violent incident at a bar/club or restaurant with a liquor license.

No way that a mere stabbing should get in the way of my having my booze and tater tots. Why give the police and other authorities time to investigate?

I agree with dcjaded a bit here.

The 96 hour automatic shutdown should have some leeway in it (i.e. not be automatic).

Why should a responsible restaurant suffer if they have a nutcase patron? From my reading of the requirement even if there is a violent event unrelated to the restaurant/bar (say, a mugging in front of the bar), then the restaurant can still be closed down.

If this close down is on a weekend that may be pretty detrimental to the restaurant, the workers pay, etc.

OMG!!! Stabbing at Sticky Rice?? NOOO...And to think..we were worried that this could only happen at XXII or one of "those places" that pass out so called flyers or chicken wangs!

djbays said...

someone posted on another thread that the shutdown is due to the fact that no staff on hand had managers licences.

i really like sticky rice and the sushi there and i've had good service more than bad

To 8:25 - LOL, so true.

@Djbays

Where did you see this? I've looked at several sites and the only thing I've seen saying that they didnt have an ABC manager on duty is an anonymous comment on this site.

Anonymous said...

i carry a knife pretty much everyday.
i'm a jackass because of that? seems a bit judgmental.

Anonymous said...

only 13 comments? this seems a perfect opportunity for experts posters to comment. i have several theories but was not there so i will keep them to myself. since some one was trying to raise excitement with the xx11 and chicken wing issues, i'm curious if xx11 ever had a 96 hour police closure.

ps you're only a jackass if you carry a knife to a gun fight. you're an ass hat if you carry a knife to a fist fight, and you're a dummy if you pull a knife and cut yourself

and if you don't get stabbed, they'll get you with the food poisoning. I've had friends on three separate occasions get sick from their food.

I myself have wanted use my chopsticks to stab the sloppy waiter with his ass crack hanging out on numerous occasions. The amount of contempt and angst he exudes while we wait forever to get sushi is enough to make anyone at the establishment angry.

Let's see if the ANC runs amok with this...probably not as this is an "isolated' incident...Maybe XII should start serving sushi!

Actually Raphael The (ANC representative for the area) raised concerns about Sticky Rice in past meetings, but was poohed poohed by the white folk.

Anonymous said...

anon - what concerns about sticky rice did he raise?

Walked by this morning and the new signs from Alcohol Board said that the license was suspended indefinitely.

Anonymous said...

isn't this the second stabbing at Sticky Rice? Why should we tolerate an establishment that contributes to violent behavior in our community?

Anonymous said...

Raphael (the former anc rep) wasn't the brightest dude. thank god he moved on

Anonymous said...

does anyone have any details about the stabbing? I mean a domestic spat is very different than a bar fight stabbing or a robbery.

Anonymous said...

Details? Really how can we have an intelligent discusion if we let details get in the way. Course i'm no the brightest dude.

It was me. I did it. I used Mr. Cutty Knife to strike down another alpha male. It's weird though; I catch a lot more vitriol from the hipster, lib-yuppie, posh gay dudes crowd when I buy chicken wings from bears. Go figure.

Yes, this is stabbing #2 at Sticky Rice.

tubbs said...

stabbing #3 will occur if I have to wait more than three hours for my sticky balls. But, I'll make sure to go to XXII before I make the thrust, so you lot will be more comfortable screaming on the internet.

Pro tip: use a kitchen utility knife about six inches in length. Something cheap, like farberware (don't mess up your wusthofs. save those for your dinner parties where you don't invite your neighbors). The flexibility of the low quality blade compared to stiffer combat style knives makes it less likely that the blade will deflect off of bone, and, instead, slide nicely into the soft, vital bits. You don't need a Benchmark or Boker to do the job. Cheers!

Anonymous said...

The reason it is indefinite is that no one there had a managers license (again, big dummies).

"use a kitchen utility knife about six inches in length"

Very hard to conceal a six-inch blade that can't be retracted.

tubbs said...

only if you're an amateur. How long is your forearm? If you're a nancy boy, try your calf. If you can't hack it, get ready to run in to Mr. Cutty Knife!

tubbs said...

dang. I just measured my pants pocket and it goes nine inches. Is that the same thing you tell your wife?

common sense said...

stabbing number 2?

if the stabbings won't quit, your liquor license should be forfeit(ed), to paraphrase a crafty defense attorney.

I wonder what the ANC will do to ensure there's adequate security so this will not happen again?
