Sorry to make the first comment off-topic, but does anyone know if that car wash & detailing shop on 9th street is still open? I could use a good car wash and they never appear to be open.

Maybe a living social coupon could help toyland get back on its feet?

Is toyland still being boycotted by the neighborhood?

eh who cares

DDP has impressed everyone I've introducted it to, this is a good deal.

As for Toyland, you know a sensible person avoids having out with associates who are always in trouble? That's the line I take on Toyland. There's always something unsettling happening and I'd rather just associate myself with more solid businesses.

oops, I meant "who cares" about Toyland drama. The DDP thing is cool. I still need to try them out.

Seems like they do half their business through a rotation of groupon/livingsocial/sowhatsthedeal specials (not that I'm complaining really, I buy all of them). But one's gotta question the kind of margins they're making at full price to be able to afford it, no?

I think the boycott is still going on. Maybe an all you can drink neighborhood night would get people back in there. Looked very sparse this weekend.

Which is more delicious, the pies or toyland gossip?

I was thinking of a slightly different question. Which is more lame? The person/people who keeps bringing Toyland back up in every single thread here, or . . . .well, actually, I can't come up with anything else that's really a contender.

OMG! You all are still carrying on about Toyland! Are we not adults here?

By they way, they were busy last weekend. I was actually there saturday eve. I think the neighborhood is slowly coming around...i had a great burger too! I like the new food they are whipping out....

Can't believe they are doing this again. I went on Saturday and they were out of pies and told me it was my fault that I was waiting to claim the certifcate. Then they gave me a spoiled savory pie. DD is starting to have the same hipster attitude as sticky rice.

They could care less about customer service and more about being cool. I am done with DD.

Just my opinion.

Good! More pie for me!!!

the girl behind the counter there tried to upsell me to the hair pie. I took her up on it, but there were just too many ingrowns. It was tasty, but, overall, I'd say stick with the general rodgering you get by purchasing their standard fare.

The Toyland drama has pretty much blown over except for a few malcontents.

Dear Anonymous
(Jan 18, 2011 8:51:00 PM),
Please know that among our small staff at DDP we have an elementary school science teacher at a local juvenile detention, a social worker at Children’s Hospital, a financial advisor, a law student at American University, a Doctorate student, and 2 recent college graduates new to the area hoping to meet some great like-minded folks. As a shop I would like to point out that less than 1 year open, we have set aside a percentage of sales to make sure 1,400 homeless men, women, and children received pie this holiday and hand delivered them. We also set aside a percentage of sales to help raise funds for a local elementary school right here in NE. We have also donated a number of great gift certificates to charitable auctions and have happily given our product and catering services on a number of occasions to local art galleries in support of our local artists. I bring these things up only in defense of our hardworking and caring crew as well as in defense of the DDP philosophy in general. Please keep these things in mind when making statements regarding our character.

As for the certificate incident, If you came in on Sat then you spoke with the science teacher and I am 100% positive she was only speaking rationally and truthfully, as the last few days before a coupon expiring does put a lot of pressure on any business. If you took that as attitude then you were simply mistaken.
By the sounds of it you in fact did receive a pie but I’m assuming it was not the pie you were originally looking forward to receiving and for this I am sorry. However, as a bakery that makes everything from scratch each and every day, there may be days that a type of pie does sell out. This brings me to my next point. I understand that you were disappointed to not receive the pie you had wished for but to make untrue statements out of spite, claiming you received a “spoiled” pie is horribly unfair. We work so hard to make the best darn pie FRESH everyday and I have NEVER heard of anyone stating such a hostile claim. So it is unfortunate you feel you are done with us but honestly the most unfortunate part of all of this is that anyone should feel the need to portray a small business negatively on a blog that was created solely to support those small businesses. We will continue to support our community as well as serve and appreciate our fans and supporters and it’s too bad you will no longer be a part of it.

Just my opinion.
