Does this mean it's finally going to open? Any word on when?

The ability to use sign language is also very helpful in our area.

Washington Post "Toki Underground has been under construction since since 2009"

There are many sign languages that are used in our area but commenters probably mean American Sign Language specifically.

Very few employers, organizations, etc. in the DC metro area would say something like "The ability to use spoken language will be helpful." They would be more specific. "English", or "Russian", or "Chinese."

It will be very cool if rather than "sign language", "American Sign Language" or just ASL is used. Unless of course if Toki Underground wants to hire someone who knows Taiwanese Sign Language! (From the menu: These ramen dishes are inspired by Chef Yang’s experience at a Hakata Ramen shop in Taipei.)

Looking forward to the opening!

Kim,
You might be taking that one a bit far.

Right on, Kim!

There are some establishments in DC where if "the ability to [properly] use spoken language" were required, there would be no employees.

Seconded. This is America. Of course they would need to use ASL. Why in the H-E-Double hockey sticks would anyone be using Taiwanese Sign Language? PCness has gone too far!!!

I know "TSL." It's a rare form of unspoken communication. It involves a lot of fisting, so it's kind of like braile for your colon. It works for the hearing or the deafies, but they make different sounds in response, obviously. I'm equal opportunity, baby!

cripes. braille. My bad. I was typing with one hand. The other was entertaining this overweight blonde dude who goes to some college north of here. I can't really figure it out; he just keeps hollering "gal, you bet!!!!!!" In his defense, I am wearing a wig.

It's been awhile since I have gone to any of the bars on H Street. For an isolated segment of the District, it is hopping and more and more people out. Even the 'so-called-homeless' begging for money. I say ti like that because they were not out asking every white person for money a year ago.

I even saw a few hearing-impaired people out too. BTW, that is the correct way to address them.

tubbs = issues

i for one appreciate the suggestion of multilinguility in Toki's ad.

Taking the extra half second to consider people's dignity and treating the as they wish to be treated does not equal PCness gone to far.

I also just think it makes you sound more articulate (to use the longer, PC version).

Every time an anonymous poster comments about Toyland (good or bad), I will punch a kitten. Your move, anonymous.

Give it a rest.

captcha = "dumbos" - how appropriate.

The above comment was more relevant before Elise (rightfully) deleted an anonymous comment.

Derek,

My understanding from my deaf friends is that deaf people prefer to be called deaf not hearing impaired. Before you try to be PC know what you are talking about.
