Eater: 38 Essential DC Restaurants

Eater makes its list, checks it twice, and finds three H Street locations represented. The Atlas Room (#2!), Ethiopic (#17), and the Argonaut (#26) all made the cut. The list is meant to represent not crazy expensive, yet still high quality, restaurants around the city.

Hopefully Queen Vic and Toki make the cut next year. Perhaps it was too early. They both have seriously solid culinary chops. Good to see Atlas room up there. One of the best spots int he District, hands down.

Ethiopic is #17 not #7. The renovations there look great, their prices on the other hand are way high...

9:53,
I think they want places that have been open at least six months.

10:04,
Sorry, midnight typo. I still think Ethiopic's prices are fine for the quality of the food and size of the portions.

guess i've been in dc too long b/c the veggie combo for two at u street spots is usually about half the price of ethiopic's $35. their food, staff and ambience are great. i'm glad they're doing well, just out of my price range...

Of all of the H St spots, I am most impressed with Liberty Tree. Consistently, some of the best food in our neighborhood...superb pizza.

yes, the Liberty Tree is overlooked. I've been in the area for about a year and haven't been. Any recommendations?

Anon 12:24- I haven't had every pizza but the ones that I've had were very good, and at a good price. Had the lobster roll the other day and it was GREAT, not better than Hank's though.

Agree the Liberty Tree is often overlooked! I'm a creature of habit so I tend to get the same things over and over. My favorites are the Casino Pizza, the Meat Pizza, and the Peppadew Peppers as an appetizer.

The Lobster Mac and Cheese is amazing! As for the pizzas, you can't go wrong with the Godfather. It's also fun to see what specials will be created weekly.
