What's the point of this post?

It's just a photo, chill out. And yes, that shop is now closed. I heard the Murray's is closing this year as well. anyone have any info on what's going on with these properties?

what is the point of asking what the point is of this post?

It's a photo of a building on H street.

Boy, that is an ugly stretch.

Murray's is closing? How about Good Danny's?

We need an entrepreneur to open a gym on H Street. There is no good big gym around here. Anyone?

Gym is a tough business. Not easy to operate. Someone with years of experience is required to run a sustainable gym business.

Who else thinks that Murry's current space is perfect size for a Trader Joes??

Whatever happened to the drug-cream truck? Haven't heard it in ages.

I'm OK for drugs tho...

If Murry's goes and this place is gone, could this be a sign that someone is making progress redeveloping that whole block? Mainly getting rid of H Street Storage

Anonymous said...

H Street Storage's current location would be a great place for a gym!

re: big gym. Would you settle for a Big Jim? That's what my neighbor goes by. I can give you his address.

Re: Trader Joes: we've been through this route before. Bring on the Whole Foods petitions! There is a Giant going in at 4th & H, with 2 Safeways within a mile, a Harris Teeter a 10-minute walk away, and an Aldi going in just after the Starburst intersection. Will no one rest until there is a grocery store within 2 blocks of every residence along H Street? Save your dreams for something else - like maybe a bar/restaurant that doesn't follow a pricing model that assumes we're all Georgetown residents out for a walk on the wild side.

Roller skating rink! H Street needs a roller skating rink!

I second the Trader Joe's comment, regardless of other grocery options. There's none within a 20 minute drive. TJ's draws people in from outside the area, and which has unusual, quality offerings, while being a bit quirky, and not too pricey. I think it's perfect for us. If only they would agree. . . . :-)

that is a sad block in any case. Hope it picks up somehow!

The Safeway at City Vista is not really servicing the people on the east end of H.

The Safeway at the starburst is absolutely terrible. I cant describe how much I loathe that dirty, crowded dump. Lets not even talk about customer service - I would be surprised if the people working there had ever heard of the term.

Aldi services a different clientele than Trader Joes.

Giant at 3rd & H remains to be seen how that will be run. If its anything like that dump over near the Home Depot, I wont set foot in it.

As for the new Teet - I LOVE it - but think they need some competetion to keep them on their toes.

I think Trader Joes will bring in people from around the city as a previous commenter noted. I wont be picky though if Whole Foods deems to grace us with their presence, I'd spend money there too. See? I can be flexible!

speaking of gyms, whatever happened to the place on the east end of H street? i've walked by and seen lights on inside. concur that a gym would do very well...south side of capitol hill has like, three or four gyms, and this side has zero.

Is it safe to assume that the street car project has reached a road block? I was expecting electrical substation construction continuing during the time that they figure out the logistics with Amtrak.

Trader Joe's? I think Dean & Deluca is probably looking at the Murray's location. Or maybe Tiffany and Co.

Seriously folks. Go to the Whole Foods on P Street or the Trader Joe's in West End. Walk around and notice all of the highrise housing within a five or six-block radius of those stores.

If you're thinking there are high rises over in NoMa you are correct - and most of them are about as close to P Street as they would be to a Whole Foods in the middle of H Street.

Whole Foods is not going to build a new store this close to P Street. Maybe over near the baseball stadium when all of that housing is fully developed. In the meantime I'm grateful for the Harris Teeter and hopeful about the new Giant.

A Tiffany in that spot would be sweet. That way I wouldn't have to schlep out to the 'burbs for my weekly supply of diamonds and pearls. But I'll settle for trader joes.

So is Murray's closing a done deal? Or is this just a rumor? Anyone have anything official?

BTW: One major gripe I have...

Excited for Tru Orleans to open, looking forward to it and all. But someone (Tru Orleans, a utility company... I don't know who) ripped up part of the new side walk and repaired with nasty black asphalt. I really hope whoever did it (and I'm not arguing the necessity of utility work at that location) will restore the new sidewalk back to its previous condition. I'm tired of Pepco, Washington Gas, and WASA ripping up sidewalks (brick, concrete, etc) and just throwing down asphalt. If you're going to rip it up, restore it to its previous condition.

Alright, I feel better. Back to work...

Here here on repairing sidewalks. Asphalt sidewalks look apalling. I wish we used more cobblestones, as they do in Europe, since they can be pulled up when needed and replace without damage.

I'm not really sure what's going on with that block. I need to look into it, but I have heard (and I've seen the equipment) about someone appearing to drill some sort of exploratory holes in the parking lot. That would seem to indicate plans for a large scale construction project. Really no details yet.

ro said...

they were drilling this morning.

Just a word about Trader Joe's. I love the place and have signed more petitions than I care to remember asking them to consider locating on the Hill. The company is really resistant to urban locations. The Foggy bottom store is only there because of a "$1.12 million incentive payment by the Foggy Bottom Association—not the
District Government—to the company" I'm not sure that the H Street community would or could scrap up over a million dollars for a Trader Joe's. I know I don't want one that bad.

If this is true, then f Trader Joes. I wouldn't bribe a business to grace my neighborhood with their presence so that I can spend my money there. I don't consider TJ to be THAT fancy. I don't understand why people think it would be such a stretch for. Nice stores to come. Does everyone forget that Cap Hill is just on the other side of H, and the neighborhoods north of H are changing and bringing more $?

a trader joes? jeasusus people. theres a safeway. a harris teeter. the capitol city markets. a farmers market. soon to be an aldi and a giant. and ya'll want another supermarket?

He's right! a trader joes?

What we really need is another take out spot. I mean, where else (other than the 4 chinese/chicken carry outs on the 600 blk) can i get mambo sauce, wings fried hard, and some litter?

Them damn chickens ain't gonna fry themselves! I need easy access to chinaman!

so not thinking we need a traders joes= thinking we need more carryout?

i think we'll be covered with supermarkets. and i think we've covered with carry-outs.

Anonymous said...

What we really need is a cup cake place.
