Report of Massive Illegal Kerosene Dump on Florida Ave

A reliable source reports that DC Water, Fire, and MPD are parked in front of an auto body shop in the 1100 block of Florida Ave. The source reports that an individual has been caught, and possibly, arrested for dumping kerosene (like, an entire tank in a truck [NOT a tanker truck] full of kerosene). More details as they become available.

++++++UPDATE++++++

I'm hearing that the culprits may have ties to Morse St. (possibly residents of that street), but do not appear to have any ties to the nearby auto body shop (that's just where the trucks were parked).

++++++++UPDATE+++++++++

It's actually a large old oil tank in a pick-up truck. No idea on the origins. I did get confirmation on the arrest.

Avila's Car Center? Shady ass shop...i knew you were up to no good? Also, is it a chop shop?

It doesn't look like Avila's had anything to do with this. I think that's just where DC Fire and MPD parked (Montello Avenue is a one way street). I have lived closeby for 10 years, and I've never heard a chop shop rumor of any kind. I'm actually told they do good work.

It's incredible to me just how ignorant some people are.

Anon 4:53: I think anon 4:47 was referring to how ignorant people can be in the real world, not on the internet.

How much did the perps successfully dump?

In Louisville, KY ~30 years ago, a screwup at a Ralston-Purina plant sent several thousand gallons of hexane into the sewers. Shortly after, it ignited, destroying over two miles of city streets. Fortunately, the explosions happened in the middle of the night rather than when the streets were busy with rush hour traffic.

Chris,
it sounds like they may have caught the dumper[s] early on. I'm not really sure, but this could have been a very dangerous situation. The alley was still blocked off as of 7pm.

I saw this and tried to get through the alley last night and was pissed because I initially thought the car that was blocking the alley right behind the church was someone going into that church. Usually those folks attending church are blocking the alley while chatting, dropping off, parking, etc and it gets really annoying. I hope they cleared everything safely.

Off topic but interesting blurb mentioning H Street in a Politico article:

THE BACKSTORY: COBURN'S RELATIONSHIPS WERE KEY -- Even more from Manu, who remains 'The Machine,' in a separate story: 'Even after he abruptly left the Senate's Gang of Six in May, Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn couldn't get too far away from one of the group's chief budget negotiators, Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss. The two conservatives continued having dinner almost every evening in the trendy H Street neighborhood close to the Capitol. And they kept talking about whether the left-for-dead Senate gang could really work. ... Coburn's support can't be underestimated; without it, Crapo and Chambliss wouldn't have signed on - and neither would virtually any other Senate Republican. ... The importance of personal relationships in the Senate also can't be underplayed - Coburn is not only close with Chambliss, but he struck up an important personal friendship with Barack Obama when the president was in the Senate.'
