THIH: Queen Vic Review

DSC_0001

The Hill is Home has a very detailed review of the Queen Vic. I recently tried the veggie curry (ingredients vary by day) and found the food ample, and quite tasty. I later met someone who had tried it at brunch and felt the opposite. I'm curious about other people's opinions on the veggie curry.

I can't drink alcohol due to medication, but the Queen Vic folks have always been just really nice about serving me ice tea without the 'tude.
After a couple of visits, I decided the the daily specials are the way to go. On some nights, I think that they have some of the best prepared dishes in the city. They have some of the biggest and tastiest porkchops that I have ever seen. The roasted beet salad, the mushroom dishes should win honors. The fish and chips are really good but I think that they have hidden treasures on the chalkboard.

The veggie curry is okay but rather one dimensional... at least the one time I had it. I'd be hard pressed to order it again, but if enough people rave about it I will.

I've had the fish & chips many times, and really enjoy it. I tried the toffee pudding for the first time last night, and it was awesome.

When they first opened they had really good butter chicken. Now they have tikka masala, which is also good, but I liked the butter chicken better. That might be due to my personal preference, though. Fish and Chips were good too. I think their food plus awesome beer selection makes them a great place overall.

I am not a fan of the veggie curry but as it does change I'll be more than happy to try it again- I really do want to support local biz and folks who are making the effort to offer veg food. And while it's sorta cool that they change it up, I also don't want to have to roll the dice when I go out to eat. I'd be more inclined to stick to the place that I know offers a solid meal that I like every time.

I had this dish about a month ago, close to when they first started serving food. It was probably 80 percent Garbanzo beans. I understand ingredients are seasonal, but I thought that was a little heavy handed with the one ingredient. Plus, the curry sauce seems a little bland to me. So, its not something I would order there again unless I was ensured there are some veggies in there I enjoy more.

Haven't tried the curry, but the toffee is incredible. Also I love their fish and chips and sausages.

Be warned that the portions are not only tasty but huge. They have to be one of the best meal deals on H

I went once and was very disappointed in the Cornish pasties. The fillings were skimpy and lacked taste.

Also a fan of the fish and chips. The roasted bone marrow is also tasty.
