Sweet Charleston's Comes 1348 H Street

DSC_0008
Here's a photo from way back in March of this year (still useful for location context) of 1348 H Street and its neighbors while they were under construction.

Evolve Property Management announced that it has signed a lease with the owners of Carolina Kitchen (a restaurant serving low country food) for 1348 H Street. The space is a double rowhouse, so it's pretty wide.

Nice, I'm sure Langstons will be thrilled, but do they have a mobile unit? BTW that's "Soul Food" There appears to be a couple of these in the DMV so I suspect they have a good business plan and will be open on the regular.

It would be awesome if they served turkey wings and okra with tomatoes and corn like the little old man from the Carolina's who occupied that space back in the day had. I think inked has a photo with the, christmas lights, and grease board. The gentleman had the grease board out side with the hand written menu and inside he had the steam table set up and the off brand liquor ... and pig feet.

Pickled pigs feet is considered a delicacy by southerners.

That would be my inability to functionally edit the text of posts from my smart phone, combined with my unwillingness to get out of bed and go to the computer at 11:30pm.

The owner of Carolina kitchen is also planning on putting in a restaurant at 1309-1311 H St NE (buildings immediately west of the Atlas Theater).

It would be nice to have something on the Eastern End other than bars and restaurants.

Truly a sign of how much things have progressed, and how spoiled I am becoming: I was actually bummed a bit to hear this. I was really hoping for the Tryst like coffee bar concept for this space.

But things continue to march forward on H!

9:07,
I'm aware of vague restaurant plans for the buildings at 1309-1311, but I hadn't heard of any interest from the Carolina kitchen people. Email me at elise.bernard[at]gmail[dot]com if you have more info on that.

Also a tiny bit disappointed that this isn't going to be an expansive coffee house. Oh well, SOVA has everything I need anyway.

I hope this restaurant is reasonably priced (looking at you, TruOrleans) and open for brunch.

I love Langston Bar & Grill but their performance is super spotty, so there's certainly room for competition.

This is great! I hope they make kick ass mac and cheese. I also second the need for a nice laid back and sizable coffee shop. I go to Sidamo regularly and somtimes the little place is just packed. I hit up Sova too, but it would be nice to have a larger, more open coffee shop to lounge in.

Oh, yea, it will have a "retractable roof" - that sounds kick ass.

I'm sure Langston Bar and Grille will be fine. They appear to have a pretty loyal clientele.

Bring on the soul food!
