Scott Magnuson of the Argonaut sent me this 1927 photo of what is now the Argonaut. Magnuson got the photo from the daughter of the owner of that business (a Coney Island). Apparently she stops by the Argonaut about once a year when her niece visits from Florida. As you can see from the photo, this was an integrated business.
Here's a photo from almost the same spot soon after the Argo opened in 2006.
They moved the bar after the fire, so that area is now table seating.

When is the Argonaut going to reintroduce the 8 cent hot dog special?
This is so cool! My house was only 2 years old when this photo was taken- so hard to imagine what it was like back then!
Thanks for posting this.
It's a very interesting photo. Nice to see the kids in it, since the current owners also let their daughter (Ari)hang around the Argonaut.
Looks like the kids got the buy 1 get 2 haircuts free deal!
Interesting. In the mirror, Mavis reads 'zivam'......
Which is Hebrew for what?
First correct answer gets a Frozentropics t-shirt*!!!

that can't be the argonaut; the servers seem attentive and the customer doesn't seem to be sweltering in the heat while asking repeatedly for a napkin!
Looks like "Mavis" was a bottling company that was purchased by Pepsi in 1935.
@ 11:03 Looks like the customer must not be a jack-ass!
Anybody know the name of the original restaurant?
