DC NoMa: No Kitchen on K

DC NoMa confirms the rumors that have circulated for months. The Kitchen on K is officially not coming to the area. Chef Gillian Clark's financial problems appear to have nixed the deal. Hopefully the Loree Grand (250 K Street) can find a new ground floor restaurant tenant in short order.

Well ain't that a kick in the junk. I was looking forward to this establishment. I hope it won't be long before they line something else up.

I've heard they will announce a replacement soon. The build-out is done, so it hopefully won't take too long before something is there.

The build out is "done"? It's just an empty space.

You clearly haven't ventured out much. That area of NNE has two apartment buildings packed full of affluent 20-somethings. And NoMA due west!

I hope that the Loree Grand provides parking for whatever is located there because the renters at the Loree Grand and Senate Square has f-ed up parking in the neighborhood!! Thanks to these money grubbers that will not lower the price for folks to get garage parking, I have to drive around wasting time before I find a spot or I have to park blocks away from my house! That sucks!

There's a new announcement today about a new restaurant that will open in the Kitchen on K space in February 2012.

From the Loree Grand Management:

"We are very excited to announce that Zuppa Fresca will be opening in our retail space on February 1st! Featuring traditional Italian food with a modern twist, Chef Alfio will bring a unique feel to NoMa and The Loree Grand. They will initially start with a breakfast and lunch menu with brunch on Sundays. Shortly after opening they will have dinner and bar services available."

"Alfio Celia was quintessentially "born in the kitchen". Coming from a family with 40+ years of restaurant experience, Alfio is bringing a rustic Italian flair to the DC market. Set to be one of the youngest chefs in DC, this chef will incorporate old style ides from Sicily into the atmosphere and food at his new restaurant. After working for his families' restaurants for 7 years, he graduated in 2009 from L'Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, MD. Alfio has worked at several fine dining restaurants and hotels in the metro area. He and his partner started AC Culinary, Inc. in 2011 and are working on opening their first restaurant within the year."

I havne't heard much about this Chef, but it's certainly good news that the space will finally be put to use after the Kitchen on K fell through.
