More of Jair Lynch in the 600 Block of H Street

Two nice pieces on developer Jair Lynch's plans for the properties he just purchased on the south side of the 600 block of H Street. First up is the Washington Post, and second we have a shorter offering from Urban Turf. The Post article describes Lynch's plans to demolish the one story middle building and replace it with a mixed-use structure with 240 apartments.

This is great news, but what is happening with Murry's? That could be the icing on the H St. cake.

I am interested to know what their design is. So far, the very brief description sounds like the previous developer. I wonder if they want to push the limit and put a 9-story building there?

What will happen to the farmer's market?

How about H Street Connection parking lot for farmer's market?

At least until the H Street Connection goes away too.

This is great news! I wonder what the likelihood of a 2012 groundbreaking is? Sounds like the financing/capital is in place, so hopefully chances are good.

Derek, I would love to see a 9-story (or taller) building there.

@landlord,
a proposed sketch exist from the previous developer, but we do not know if it will be applied to any further development. Recently, the previous developer got an extension.

In my view, I see nothing wrong with the 9-story building there. They have the zoning for it when I last looked. The problem I had was the density of the area and it impact on rights-of-light for the neighboring homes. The previous developer did scale it back.

Please Please Please can we get some interesting architecture?

I"m thinking maybe something like The Whitman near the Convention Center?

Or maybe like the Aqua in Chicago.

This is a chance to have a major visual impact for decades to come.

PLEASE put some thought into it. If it's apartments or condos, the extra cost on design is appreciated and reflected in the desireability of the building long term.

It'd be great to have a couple of signature architectural works on H.

Hillman,

The Whitman? Really? Wow, beauty must truly be in the eye of the beholder. I have long thought that to be one of the ugliest condo buildings in dc. In fact, Im not quite sure how it is any better than the cut and paste Columbia Heights condos like Kenyon Square.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that having some interesting design, and clean lines would be great. What that ends up being, well, we will just have to wait and see...

The Whitman is cool, I'd rather something more modern though.
