Thrillist Does The Big Board

Stop by tonight's soft opening, or tomorrow night's grand opening, of the Big Board at 421 H Street. Read the accompanying Thrillist text if you so desire.

ARGH. The Thrillist video plays *automatically* when you visit Frozen Tropics, without doing anything at all. Type the Frozen Tropics URL into your location field, hit enter, and you get that video playing. Given its content, it's far more annoying than restaurants webpages with music. Anything you can do, Elise? Otherwise this place may not be visit-able for a while . . .

You could just ask me to turn it off. Sorry, didn't realize they had auto start enabled on the embed.

ickkkkkk. Not so thrilling. I hope the burgers are better than that ackward jerky piece. Whatever happened to just selling decent food and drink at a decent price. Do we really need these silly gimmicks?

Went there last night. Burgers were great - juicy and bloody, just the way I like em. They're still working out kinks in their service and the servers were appropriately apologetic. Good place, good vibes, keep up the hard work guys!

The negativity about this place is baffling. What is wrong with you people?! I can't wait for a burger.

3:47,
People were responding negatively to the Thrillist piece. Nothing bad about the Big Board in this thread.
It sounds like everyone who's had the food enjoyed it.

Went there last night. Owners and bar staff are super friendly. Burgers are damn tasty.

The beers cover a fairly wide range, but there aren't any hidden gems.

Burgers good....hair cut bad.

Went last night and had a really good burger. The potato roll was toasted, the meat was juicy and the sauce was really nice. The burgers are decently priced as well, though the catch is that you have to buy the fries as a side- similar to BGR Joint. The beer selection is very respectable and they do have a really good IPA - the New Belgium Ranger, which I haven't seen anywhere else on tap yet. They also have a Tuna and Veggie burger to give the 'ol arteries a break. They will be expanding their liquor selection soon, as they are currently moving through the supply that they inherited. All in all, I'd say it's a great addition to H Street and I do plan to go back. One recommendation I'd have is to improve the comfort of the bar. The chairs from Toyland were never that comfortable and there's nowhere to rest your feet but those stinkin chairs. Also, the fries are soggy - you have to boil and double fry if you want crispy fries. Maybe they're going for soggy, I dunno. They're not bad, just not my style.

Have to agree that the fries were soggy...no crisp to them whatsoever. The burgers were good though and the staff friendly and responsive. Glad to have them in the neighborhood!

We found the burgers great, cooked just right...we also liked the side of cole slaw, but as other posters stated the fries were not crisp and I like them that way also (had the sweet potato ones).
Will surely go back again..yum!

Completely agree with the last few posts. Burgers rocked, staff was super friendly and not overwhelmed by the opening night crowd. The fries need attention, though. Got both the regular and the sweet potato and couldn't really eat more than a couple. All in all, the place is great and I am sure that it won't take long to figure out how to get the fries crispy. Good work guys.

Yes, we are working on the fries...both potatoes are cut down in the kitchen to order and we want them to be as fresh as possible. We do know that there are different methods and techniques to cooking fries - Mike & Adam are very experiened chefs - truly appreciate the feedback! I can tell you right now, if you don't like your fries, you won't have to pay for them. Ask for Eric, Mark, Doyle or Dave and we'll make sure of it. (We are getting lots of compliments on the fries too).

Kudos to The Big Board guys for their receptivity to feedback and commitment to customer satisfaction, hallmarks of a successful enterprise.

Regarding these Thrillist write-ups, however, yikes. I don't think they could possibly achieve a more off-putting combination of grating cutesy-ness, hackneyed cliche, and unnecessary verbiage . Buzzwords, Fight Club, Brospeak--YOU GUYS GET IT, RIGHT?!?!!!11!1!!!

Talk about trying too hard.
