A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Urban Turf looks at the space that formerly housed Sweets and Treats (an ice cream parlor). 1360 (next to the former Micky's space) recently got a nice paint job, and some other updates. That, combined with the work Evolve has undertaken, and news of a falafel shop coming to 1322a, makes me excited about upcoming opportunities on the neglected north side of the 1300 block.
TBD reports that no charges will be fired again Park Police officers in the 2009 shooting of Trey Joyner. Joyner shooting sparked high tensions and conspiracy theories. Some believed that Joyner had been shot in the back while unarmed. The Justice Department investigation, conducted by the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania after DC recused itself, has cleared all officers, and determined that Joyner aimed a loaded firearm towards an officer immediately prior to the shooting. Joyner was shot and died in an alley off Holbrook Street. Joyner was expected to be indicted only days after he was shot on charges related to a 2008 triple murder that also occurred on Holbrook Street.

The City Paper briefly examines growing pains on H Street, identifying two primary factors:

From a reader:

This item is from late last week, but it's still news. The H Street CD sold the AutoZone lot (1200 block of H Street) Westmill Capital Partners LLP for 3.9 million dollars. The Washington Business Journal reports.
I was able to check out a soft opening of Church and State (2nd floor of 1236, right above Fruit Bat). The bar is heavy on the woodwork, with two faux stained glass windows up front, and a confessional in the back. It's a got a cool vibe, and the space feels very intimate. You will barely remember you are standing only feet about Fruit Bat.

Brunch in the City dishes about Dr. Granville's which will soon (sometime in February) expand its Saturday brunch service to Sundays. Brunch is served from 11am-3pm.
Greater Greater Washington discusses DC United's wish for a new stadium. Two sites are currently under consideration:
We Love DC sat down with Ryan Gordon of the Queen Vic (LINK PLAYS MUSIC), and Gordon indicated that the long awaited British style pub will open sometime in the last half of February. The Queen Vic is located at 1206 H Street.
City Stream previews Toki Underground, the new dumpling and ramen bar opening on the second floor of 1234 H Street (right above the Pug).

Announcement:
Very soon you'll have a new option to satiate that falafel lust. No name yet, but it's on the east end of the north side of the 1300 block of H Street.

Buy the deal from Bloomspot and $15 gets you two glasses of wine and three small plates from Liberty Tree.

Go by and check the place out, new look, new food, new drinks. Way more tacos. 1433 H Street.

H Street Eats is back by popular demand, and it kicks off January 17th. H Street Eats is like a Restaurant Week just for places along the H Street Corridor. Fixed priced dining for $20.11 (at some places, this buys a meal for two) makes this a great chance to check out a new place.
Well, you should, as evidenced by this review from Bon Appetit Foodie. Follow the food truck on Twitter at dcpietruck. You can also visit the actual store at 1339 H Street.

Long awaited dumpling and ramen bar Toki Underground has posted its menu and additional information on its website. Toki is located at 1234 H Street above the Pug. Once Toki is up and running they will also be turning out food for the Pug. Look for an opening in February.
