CP: Why Did Roadside Cafe Really Close?

Housing Complex speculates on what really lead to the shuttering of the Roadside Cafe. Oh, and it's being replaced by a tire shop.

I don't think there was anything funny going on here. It was in a weird space in a weird place with a weird name.

I've mentioned this before, I just can't get past that terrible, terrible name.

I have to admit, living off 19th and Benning, I was really excited about a restaurant coming to that spot, especially one as cute as Roadside. However, when we went, they hardly had anything available on the menu and the food was sub par. To be honest, the location is too out of the way for a place like that. There needs to be more of a draw. Hopefully as rents on H St get too expensive, business will expand down Benning. Until then we get....tires.

The diner was not up to expectations. The food was mediocre, and in all honesty I did not like sitting in those shabby booths. How difficult would it have been to spruce the place up? I get the desire to preserve, but not when you're preserving broken springs and what may have been 20 or 30 year old grease residue.
