Who's Running for Ward 5 Councilmember?

Apparently, everybody.

The following info comes from the Board of Elections and Ethics. It shows all the people who have picked up nominating petitions. In order for their names to appear on the ballot they must get 500 signatures before the deadline of February 15. February 18-27th is the challenge period for those signatures. March 19th is the last day for a candidate to have his/her name removed from the ballot. So far we have 18 candidates, and I've heard of candidates who are not on this list, but who I think intend to run. Full list after the jump.

Whatever happened with the whole "Kathy Henderson - signs in front of the Diner" thing?

If Kathy can do for Ward 5 what she single handedly did to clean up the mess around her whole block (L, Lang, Lyman streets) over the last 10 years she would definitely get my vote.

I'd vote for Kathy, except for the whole batshit/nutjob/crazy/insane thing.

I would hit up every one of these candidates for constituent services if I lived in Ward 5. If there was a pothole on my street, garbage pickup got missed, anything, I'd be hitting up their campaign offices LMAO. Make them earn those votes...haha

To be fair, Henderson was accused of the theft by confirmed felon Harry Thomas.

12:37,
To be fair, HTJ wasn't the only accuser, and Henderson was caught on tape.

curmudgeon said...

Right, she was caught on video. So what happened in the end?

People talk about Kathy Henderson and discredit her, but if you look at her committment to Ward 5 and all of the positive things she has done for residents in the community, you will see that she has by far, the best track record of all the candidates and she actually LIVES in the community. Prior to me moving to DC, maybe about 10 yrs. ago, I remember seeing an Essence magazine and Kathy Henderson was on the cover with other ladies who were soldiers in their communities. I don't think the powers-that-be at Essence would have wasted a photo cover with Kathy on it if they did not see quality and credibility in all that she has done to better her community. Kathy may not be liked by many people, but you cannot take away the time and efforts she and her daughter have spent in trying to get Ward 5 on the right track. Her daughter may not be as sharp as her mother on the issues, but India has been seriously groomed by a woman who knows what it takes to do the job of a community representative. I believe Kathy Henderson "gets it" about living and surviving in Ward 5. I'd love to see her win the Councilmember position. I think her record shows that she is a deserving candidate who is truly invested in Ward 5.
