A reader sent in this info on a cat he found last night:
My wife and I found a lost calico housecat, female, declawed, goodnatured and relaxed just obviously displaced. Found her around 1630 Gales St NE meowing pitifully around 7:45 PM this evening Friday. Took her to our home and are watching over her until claimed before taking to a no kill shelter. jdeleha[at]yahoo.com

I friend of mine that is in the Air Force had a Calico that passed on. She is really looking to adopt another calico but has not yet done it. If this cat goes unclaimed. I can let her know about it. She is looking at different shelters to adopt from soon but this would be an easy fix.

That cat isn't a calico. A calico is predominately white with large patches of black and orange (or grey and buff for a dilute calico). She looks like either a torbie or a brown tabby (tiger) based on the photos. A torbie (tortoiseshell-tabby) is a brown tabby with patches of red or cream.

If you have filed a found cat report with the animal shelter you should update it with a correct color description. The shelter can also scan the cat for microchip to help reunite her with her family.

good luck!

She likely lives at the Pentacle. Perhaps her owners moved away and left her behind. That happend to a pregnant stray I found a couple of years ago. A local teenager knew the cat and said, "That's Mercedes. Her owners moved away and left her behind."

I would have been more outraged, but I've witness children being treated almost as poorly, so I wasn't too surprised.

I just moved into the neighborhood and have seen that cat many times. Granted, I have never seen it looking mistreated or starving, but I've always wondered who owned it. I would suggest putting up some "Found" signs between Gales and Rosedale. I would bet it is an outdoor cat that one of the neighbors just doesn't take very good care of... besides, "No kill shelter" just means that when they don't want to care for the animal anymore, they give it to a kill shelter to do the dirty work. Please put up some "Found" signs before you send it off to kitty oblivion. Maybe someone lost it?

Hi,

That cat lives on 1600 block of Rosedale and is an "outdoor" cat that is fed on the porch, but often goes inside their home. I also accidentally rescued it last year after it followed me home. Since it used the letterbox and was fairly polite, I figured it was a lot indoor cat. After it escaped, I saw it in the neighborhood and have seen it repeatedly relaxing on the same porch and eating from a proper food bowl. I recognize it from the white paws and the bullseye mark on its side. Please take the cat back to Rosedale. Its healthy and cared for.

The cat did not mail a letter, although that would have been awesome--*litterbox.

Actually, Anonymous, I recognize the cat from Kramer--possibly 1643 Kramer--I think her name is Lollie or Dollie, but there were five kittens from her litter (2 have been adopted by neighbors). She is a primarily outdoor cat and is fed semi-regularly, but was never spayed and has had 2 litters already in her short life. A shelter may be best for the poor kitty.

Thanks everyone: we are going to post flyers on Gales, Kramer and Rosedale tomorrow--she doesn't have a "bullseye" marking, so not sure it is the Rosedale cat but of course I want to get her to her people; she is very healthy and friendly so I do think she has people who love her somewheres. There are a few neighborhood cats with the same marking and a very nice gentleman was going door to door with a kitten in the same coloring that he found in the alley... In any event, we have done enough research to decide that a no kill shelter is not the best option (since they are apparently NOT "no kill") so we will get her home or get her a new home. Keep any info coming and I will update once the flyer goes up and hopefully we get her home.

Return the cat to it's home on Kramer and thou shalt not be punished for theft of a full grown, well fed cat. Lollie wants to go home, and lucky for you she knows the way... open the door and say goodbye.

God, assuming you're the owner, maybe you should use your omnipotence to actually look after your cat instead of letting it wander the streets.
