Tom Sietsema Gives Toki Underground 2.5 stars

That's no small potatoes coming from the Washington Post food critic. It places tiny Toki Underground (2nd floor 1234 H Street) on par with the Atlas Room (1015 H Street) as far as Seitsema's appraisal.

I'm all for Toki Underground, but can we also have some news about if or when the DC Farmers Market is going to reopen at the F.A.M. Thank you.

That's awesome. Tom doesn't always have the best things to say about H Street restaurants (besides Atlas Room and Ethiopic) so this is great. Congrats Eric!

10:46,
Not sure what's going on with the farmers market up there. I will say that the rest of the Florida Avenue Market is open and operating. Sam Wang and Mexican Fruit have produce that is cheaper than the farmers market, and you can get spices and meats at US Beef or Caribbean Crescent (also both cheaper than the farmers market).

So far the Farmers Market on H Street is still happening. However, Jair Lynch recent purchase also comes with the BZA extension. That means he needs to start construction soon.

So, maybe next year the H Street Farmers Market will be somewhere else.

Derek, please explain how a BZA wextension impacts start date. We were thinking this project was at least 5 years away.

Fiev years ago, I was told we'd have a nice new project at 8th and H in 2012!

I'm not sure an extension like this is enough to get anyone to actually start work- but I'm no expert.... other projects are delayed for decades.

Tom,

If they do not start before the extension expires, they need to begin everything all over again. Presenting to the ANC, BZA, and the community discussions. Jair said that he is a developer of place and space, where as the previous developer is a dirt farmer (one that buys property to than flip it after they have gone through hoops). He had no intention to build.

...at least that is what I was told and lead to believe.
