Curbed Peeks Inside the Flats at Atlas

Curbed has some great interior shots of the new Flats at Atlas (1600 Maryland Ave). The Flats are now accepting applications, and those interior shots tell me that they won't have a problem renting these. See more on their Facebook page.

I know people are going to complain/doubt the ability to get these prices again, but I can tell you if I hadn't already bought, I'd be very interested in renting the one bedroom here. I also took a moment while outside Safeway yesterday to admire just how close they are to the supermarket. Plus if they have parking, which is terrible to find here at times, that's a bonus. I'm looking forward to all the new neighbors.

Looking at those pictures of the people on he splash page it is clear who the target audience is. Wow, just simply wow.

Completely agree with Robby. It was the first thing I noticed when I clicked the link.

HAH white HIPSTERS with BEARDS!!!1 I love this. I'm sure they'll get along great with all the other Trinidadians and Carver-Langstonites...good luck with that ish.

I've got to agree with the other posters, it is very clear who they are targeting. White gentry, come n' git it!

Worst is the token light skinned black guy... jeez.

They have some sample quotes on the page - my favorite is: I love to hit up my favorite boutique and relax with friends over a crisp beverage.

shoot me now. An old Eminem song comes to mind: I SHIT ON YOU

These prices are just to dog gone high. They are not worth that kind of money for rent. A 2 bedroom $2150 pluse 150.00 to park and another $175.00 to park if their is a second car. Then you have to pay your own gas and electric, plus an amenity fee of $500.00 first year and $250.00 every year, then you have to pay your security deposit. It will cost well over $5000 just to move in. They should have been price as same as The Grays on Pensylvania Ave se. You have them price like this just to keep the blacks out and move the whites in. So sad!

Robby: Do you know of any good sources for "diverse" clip art? I've been looking around and I have been shocked at how hard it is to find cool pics that people haven't seen before. Most smaller businesses, like mine can't afford a private photo shoot to create them.

I thought these were overpriced initially-- but just last weekend I was at a friend's new aparment in Dunn Loring, 10 minute walk to the metro, and it was $2500 for a two bedroom. Extremely similar "luxury" concept down to the outdoor fireplace and "golf simulator".

Not saying really that either place is worth it to me for those amenities, but it's a mistake to underestimate the rental market here.

As a nearby homeowner whose 3 br rowhouse has a mortgage equal to their studio bedroom rent, I hope they get it.

I'm sure they will fit in just fine with the "trinidadians and carver langstonites". A lot of people would be surprised at how much the neighborhood has changed over the last few years.

I'm a white male (no beard) who has lived a block away in the carver neighborhood for the last 5 years. When I first moved here there wasn't much diversity on my block. That's all changed now with H street booming, the trolly coming soon and outrageous prices in other parts of the city that most people can't afford. Change is coming whether you like it or not.

So what if they are targeting white people? It's about time. The neighborhood has been targeting section 8 and drug addicts for far too long.
It's about time we see some diversity!

white people are evil bad people

The closer we move to a color-blind society that lives up to the vision of Lincoln, and MLK, the more desperate become those who refuse to give up their old wounds, who nurse their anger and resentment, and who cherish it as a badge of honor and authenticity in an increasingly faded "struggle". The forces of reconciliation and harmony will eventually prevail, but not without suffering the last painful gasps of those whose fear of a truly color blind world makes them cling to the comforts of a divided but familiar past.

Targeting young professionals for their brand new upscale apartments in an entertainment district - shocking!!!!!! ;)

Wow, I really hope "who they target" in their advertising campaign is the biggest thing people ever have to complain about when it comes to this place. Talk about first world problems.

Totally agree Annon 11:51. I'm more worried about 200+ people loading onto the X2 before I get a chance! I hope WMATA is in tune to our real problems.

If this place were catering to white people it would have a hockey rink, not a basketball court

well said Dave B. Robby, you are a racist.

I'm white and the Flats doesnt cater to me. I dont want to hang out with any of those wankers (a dirty bearded hipster but he actually is clean and showered five minutes ago...its ironic, some asswipe in saddle shoes jumping, and some self important dork wearing a skinny suit drinking a dainty cup of coffee but probably isnt cool enough to have a job wear he must read the Financial Times on the Metro). The one chick who looks like Lindsay Czarniak might be fun. She might have played sports or something in college

1:37,
Careful with the R word. Robby's just going off the front page of the website. Let's all try to play nice.

Inked, kudos to you for defending your readers, but we've all seen enough of Robby's posts to know he's the epitome of a race baiting, angry man with an axe to grind, an unwarranted sense of entitlement, and when he's on a tear (as he apparently was last night) spews his venom at all his perceived tormentors. He's not much different than Rush Limbaugh in that regard.

Except Rush doesn't give it away for free.

Wow, what fun we have here,

Anon Mar 14, 2012 7:43:00 AM:

Well we can always makes some more diverse stock photos, there are lots of created people here who would be open to helping you an other small businesses and also further their own portfolios.

1:37 & 2:08

There were a few commenters that agreed with my reaction. As a young professional who moved in to Trinidad who's black I don't want to play up to the myth that we don't exist or are in small numbers. The white professionals in Carver may stand out more, but theire are plenty of black ones who live their now, and would be and should be a target audience for the new building. That's not racist or race baiting.

I can't say that for the following:

" Dave B said...

or

"Anonymous said...

I hope these are jokes. It seems like it's positioned as if White = good/progress and non white = section 8 and drug addicts. Like I said I hope it's a joke.

If something is that obviously racist on this blog, it is probably a joke unless we have twelve year old oklahoman trolls on here.

Yeah, it's poo again said...

So funny. I love having ding dongs like Robby on this blog. Armchair intellectuals are lots of fun. Especially when they consider themselves local.

I would never hire him, but I'd definitely call him for an interview. T'would be so much fun!

Keep your day job, bubba!

Unknown said...

Perhaps because I woke up early, or perhaps because I simply thing what yall just wrote is absurd, I am laughing.

A. I've never been called bubba, that's funny.

B. I was born and raised in WDC. So the idea of not being local.... it's funny.

C. This spawned from my taking issue with the ad content.

D. Oklahoma has some decent people, and there are decent 12 year olds.

Anonymous said...

Wow, all of this vitriol from a picture on an advertisement?
Y'all must get REALLY fired up about silly issues like Kony or Syria. I'm white and I live in OUR neighborhood. Get over it.

Anonymous said...

I'm white and there's no way in hell I could afford those prices. The mortgage on my 3BR house in Carver/Langston is significantly cheaper than the montly rent for a studio. Hence the reason I moved to this area- real estate that is still affordable. That said, they are targeting young professionals with a great deal of money to throw around. I doubt it matters to them what race they are as long as they can pay the price.

And as far as this particular neighborhood being filled with section 8 vouchers and drug dealers? No, that is not a joke. If you live there, you know it's a fact. I will also go on to say the "older" residents want to see those contingents gone more so than anyone. Talk to your neighbors, you'll see.

This is probably the best comment ever...the H street revitalization is a shared vision. Obviously, Robby does not want to be apart of it.
