Found Dog Near 15th & E

LostDog01

A reader sent me this email regarding a dog that she found yesterday:

"I specifically caught him on 15th St NE between D St NE and E St NE. He's a small, intact, tan Min Pin who reportedly was running lose in the area all afternoon. I currently am keeping him at my house in the hopes I can find his owner."

Please contact peterson.amy.e[at]gmail.com if you know where he belongs. More photos after the jump.

He looks delicious.

He's quite friendly. Anytime my own dog growls at him for getting in her dog bed, he leans over and licks her nose. I hope his owners are looking for him.

If they don't claim him, can I have him?

Maybe he has a microchip?

I already took him to the vet and had him scanned for a microchip. No such luck. It appears at one point he had tags on his collar, but they appears to have fallen off. I also looked for a number written on the inside of the collar and had no luck again.

If no one comes forward can you please let us know in case someone in the neighborhood would like to adopt him? I would hate for him to have to end up in a shelter, he looks adorable.

Oh he's definitely not going to a shelter, no matter what. I have several people who I know who are interested in him, so I'm waiting until Monday to see if someone comes forward before making a decision about where he shall live next.

I understand your desire not to leave him at a shelter. But the Animal Control shelter on NY Ave is probably the very first place his owners would check. I know it's the first place I'd think to check if we lost our dog.

I know, I filed a report with them, but chose to keep the dog in my possession. They're suppose to provide my information to the owner if they call the shelter looking for him.

I think you stole that cute dog.

Perhaps hang a couple of FOUND posters in the area, listing your email or phone number and a picture of the dog?...Just a thought.

I have hung about 30 posters; posted on Craigslist in the pets and lost/found section; posted on fido finder; put flyers in the local vets; had my vet post him on their Facebook page; and posted on the lost dogs dc page on FB; I'm hoping over exposure makes someone recognize him.

But I do appreciate all the suggestions! I wouldn't have had half those ideas if it werent for people suggesting things to me. I feel like I got the word out about this guy much better than I would have on my own.

It sounds like you're doing a fabulous job of trying to find this little guy's people. He's lucky that you found him.

Amy, can't you try to book a segment on the Today Show in case his owners only watch Matt Lauer in the morning? It doesn't seem like you've done enough yet....

Yeah Amy, you thief, I have yet to see a Sky Writer informing us of this lost dog nor have the police gone door to door. Try harder! :)
