Nouveau Fleur Closes Its Doors

IMG_5027
Today was the last day for Nouveau Fleur's location at 500 H Street. The building recently sold and the new owners raised the rent. I'm told they will still do orders over the phone while they shop new locations. Here's their number: 202-543-8616.

They were great. Sad. I am sure the new owners will think they can open some type of new bar or joint and do well. I bet it will stay empty for a year.

I'm really sad about this. Nouveau Fleur did flowers and a wreath for my grandparents' gravesite at Arlington Cemetery several times, and she did a great job AND emailed photos. I have really enjoyed all of the flowers I got from there, and thought they were great quality as well. I hope she can find a place to open back up.

This was a great local business. I wish them well.

So sad...I just raved about the floral designs last night! Hopefully, she can find a new home near H Street.

Damnation. I love Nouveau Fleur... she always made the best bouquets for me, and was a pleasure to talk to every time I came in. AND I have a vase of hers that she let me borrow last time that I need to return. Thanks for posting the number - hopefully she can find a way to continue exchanging flowers for money long into the future.

Loved this shop. Debbie is an excellent designer. What a loss.

Sorry to hear. Debbie did the flowers for my wedding (which were fabulous) and she's such a delightful person. I'm glad she'll be continuing with orders and like other commenters, here's hoping she can find another location for her business.

This is the kind of business that I would hope the new Union Market could attract as a neighbor. Assuming the cost per square foot is lower, she could branch out into a full-on garden store (like the one that used to be on 14th, but was turned into, of course, a bar).

It's like people don't do anything but eat and drink in this city.

i lived across the street from this place on 5th street....i loved having a beer on the patio and admiring their flowers and landscaping. superb. hope they can find a place in the area to stay - maybe union market???

also - anyone know what is going up on the 300 block of H across from the giant? something has been quickly built and they actually built the top floors before working on the bottom floor.

What a shame! This is the only store I trusted to provide quality flowers for my wife. Debbie is very kind and always greeted me with a smile. I hope she finds a new space in the neighborhood soon. I love the improvements being made to H Street, but this is a serious loss for our community.

Debbie is temporarily renting space in Eckington until she finds a new location but the business name, website, phone and email will remain the same she tells me.

I liked this shop too. I probably went there about 5 times. Unfortunately, 3 of those times were on a Sunday, so they were closed. I think after a while I just kind of forgot about them.

Maybe she couldn’t pay the rent because she didn’t have enough customers willing to put up with her erratic hours.
If you post business hours on the door, you have to be open during those hours. On time. Every day. I went once and it was closed during “business hours”. The second time, also closed during “business hours”. I didn’t go back a third time. Many of my friends reported the same thing.
Debbie is one of the most talented floral designers in town and this business should have been a blow out success on H Street. But not with the lack of attention to running the business.

Several other business on H Street should take heed. If you are serious about running a business, we expect you to be reliable.
Or you will fail.

Debbie is an amazing florist and an amazing person. It sucks to see another small business squeezed out due to rising rent. I hear she plans to launch a website soon and that Nouveau Fleur will continue to live on. I plan to continue to use her especially since I have yet to find another florist that comes close.
