New Bakery Coming to 403 H Street

Awesome news via Twitter of a new bakery in the works. A bakery has long ranked high on the list of most requested businesses on H Street, and it's great to see one coming from already established local business owners.

Long vacant building turning into a non-alcohol related neighborhood serving retailer? If that is "adamsmorganization," then I say bring it on!

Hope it's like the Spring Hill bakery on Barrack's row.

oh yuk. I hope it is not like the Spring Hill bakery. Long lines, noise, and very boring offerings. I hope that it is unique and not just like the chain offerings that appear in every suburban mall.

A good selection of breads would be good enough for me.

Give me a good croissant in the morning and warm baguettes in the evening, and I'll be a regular. The neighborhood needs some more places for a quick breakfast.

This should be a nice compliment to Sidamo's coffee.

Actually Spring Hill has a limited selection however, they are all healthy options. They have 7 grain, whole wheat, multigrain options rather than typical white breads such as baguettes and croissants which taste bland and have little nutritional value

I'm sorry, I'm not sure why people are complaining about our neighborhood becoming nicer and providing different options for residents other than bars...

I think this sounds like a great addition and I can't wait to see what they come up with.

people complain about the neighborhood becoming more like cap hill or adams morgan because they get off on living in an area that is considered edgy. well, i'm tired of edgy. i look forward to our neighborhood evolving into
a place that doesn't include litter and bums and drug dealers.
i live here and i love it. but a bakery will be an excellent plus!

I just hope they don't throw their cupcake and muffin bottoms in the alley and attract rats

Spring Mill is good for what it is, but it's very different than a European bakery. I personally would love to see a good French, Italian, or Austrian bakery open up here, and I think it would draw in customers from all over DC.

I cannot stress this enough: A good baguette. A real one. The right way. Daily. People will buy them once they know how good it is.

@NotABaker

Great to see more retail and a bakery at that. But whole wheat is not necessarily healthy. I've drastically cut back on eating wheat/bread for years now and read the book Wheat Belly a few months ago, it absolutely opened my eyes, it's an easy read and informative.

I hope that this business does well because I know that I would grab a fresh baguette from time to time.

pretty good idea by the ethiopic people. put the bakery near their coffee shop. even if the bakery might not be self sustaining, it could drive more business to the coffee shop and make it worth while. a separate owner for the bakery would have a more difficult time. they do own sidamo, right?

No, they do own Sidamo.

They do NOT own Sidamo.

Anonymous said...

In fact they do own sidamo. Get it straight sister.

Kenfey Bellay owns Sidamo.
Meseret Bekele and Samael Ergete own Ethopic.

8:31,
I haven't seen the permit for the new bakery, but Sidamo & Ethiopic have different owners.
