The Black SparksTalented, young punk rock band from DC

Monument4 piece punk band from Silver Spring

History Repeated is a post punk band from the Washington DC area. Vocalist John Stabb has been in several bands over the years, but most know him from the time he served fronting the heavily influential 80s punk band Government Issue. Guitarist Derrick Baranowsky made a name for himself while touring with various DC bands and is known for his energy, sound, and writing style. The recent addition of bassist CF Best and drummer Mike Diana usher in a new era for the band that used to be known as Sleeper Agent!, but changed its name due to unwanted association with a Bowling Green, KY band of the same name. Fueled by disinterest in popular culture and frustration with an industry that doesn't care about music, History Repeated remains driven by a deep DIY ethic. They exist for the sheer fun and enjoyment of creating, recording, and playing music together. And that's all you need, really.

"The band still has the legendary John Stabb on vocals along with the guitarist from the previous version. It has Stabb's signature short intense bursts of lyrics atop a mostly steady rhythm with a fascinating post punk grinding rock guitar style. It really twists around nicely reminding me a bit of Mission of Burma and even more of Proletariat. I almost want to say Flipper, but no band really sounds like Flipper and these guys are much too tight for that--closer to early Banshees perhaps. Great to see these guys continuing onward as this is a welcome sound, both familiar and unique in that very strange way. So learn the name and join me the next time these guys play."- http://dcrocklive.blogspot.com, live review from Jan. 2012

"John Stabb is best known as the leader of Government Issue, one the more fondly remembered bands from D.C.'s first generation of punk rock. That group still reunites from time to time, but Stabb has led other ensembles since G.I.'s original run.Stabb's latest project is History Repeated, which was called Sleeper Agent! until recently. At the band's show Saturday night at Velvet Lounge, he was one part Jello Biafra, one part whirling dervish. Not bad for a dude with five metal plates in his head."- Washington City Paper
