A reader sent in this photo and report.

[A]round 5pm...yesterday I noticed that police were raiding a house...They brought out the big guns and were in full gear, as about 15 officers were searching the house. Im not sure why they were searching 711 Fst NE, but I took a picture that I wanted to share with you.

Looks like U.S. Park Police.

Park Police were there but there were others too. I live nearby and have seen the Marshal service there recently.

Ah, so that's why the park police helicopter was flying so low yesterday. Which provided much-needed close air support, I'm sure.

Two neighbors of mine were walking past there when this all went down (I live two blocks away):

Said one:

"Burglars used a battering ram -- in broad daylight -- to enter the residence through the front door."

Said another:

"I was walking to the Metro at about 5:30 and just turned onto F when all hell broke loose on the street, cop cars coming from every direction, helicopters circling--not sure if more than one, but very very loud-- park service van arriving with a German Shepherd etc. As I walked by, a police officer went up to a couple sitting in a parked car and ordered them to get out."

So yeah, more break-ins in this area. I know MPD caught one kid the other day and pinned at least two recent break-ins on him (one on Acker, one on 7th). But he's a juvenile, so knowing D.C. he's likely back on the street already after his mom came to pick him up.

and we can all thank Phil Mendelson for that.

Is this how developers prepare a block for construction?

You mean Tommy Wells? Oh well, maybe someday we will get a council candidate who will represent someone other than the kin of criminals.

I was assaulted two days ago by a bunch of pot smoking kindergartners. I was too embarrassed to report it, but they climbed on me and threw me to the sidewalk. I had some candy in my pockets, and threw it. They scampered towards it, like cats chasing treats -that's when I fled. Bloodthirsty bastards.

I've seen variants of this comment posted on FT several times, almost always by (an) anonymous commenter(s), and I don't understand it whatsoever. His background is social work, not law, and he works with troubled kids- how is this a knock on him? Do you have a problem with social work in general, or do you think that he has some sort of "pro-criminal" agenda? Having grown up and living in Tommy's ANC for the last 15+ years I'll gladly say that he represents me, and I think he does a fantastic job of it.

Anon. 4:33,

I live right next to the house that gotten broken into on 7th. The owner told me the cops had caught on of the kids who broke in but another one got away. People in the neighborhood should still be on the alert and call in anything suspicious (i.e., teenagers or young men checking out people's doors or looking into backyards from the alleys).

The police said that the kid who did get caught was 17 and that this was not his first burglary. They are therefore charging him as an adult and he is looking at 5-12 years of jail time.

Does anybody know what the raid at 711 F St. was for? Drugs? Something else?

Any time I see a kid in a hooded sweatshirt and skinny jeans I call the police.

If he's in my alley, I don't recognize him, and he's loitering, yep, that's exactly what I do.

Huh, someone from that corner told me it was a drug bust and that it was the SWAT team that busted down the door.

Hoodies go with baggy skater jeans, not skinny jeans. But by all means call the cops on everyone like I do.
