Thom,
There are other places in the Market that sell Mexican fruits, but the mention of a purse vendor and seafood vendor makes me fear that you might be correct.

yeah, ya know. I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories, but first the one building burns down, turns in to gentrification yuppish central that has none of the basics (butchers) the old market had. Now another building goes?

color me suspicious.

Also, let me be blunt, I like the stuff at the new Union Market, but I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it. Alot of my neighbors used to goto the market to get affordable meats and custom cuts. Really disappointing that they didnt bring at least some of the old vendors back.

Hope some of the business will be allowed to re-lease.

DCJaded,
I believe that three of the old vendors did return/are returning to the new Union Market.

DCJaded,
one of the returning businesses is a butcher.

I shopped at the old market and it was by no means cheap. It looked dirty and cheap, but was not. Not the butchers, not the delis, not the knock offs. It was still city pricey. People just want to bitch.
