Last Minute ANC Endorsement: Darlene Glymph

Readers, I wish that I had more info, and was able to put this out there earlier, but if you live in ANC 5D05, please (for the love of God, I am serious) vote for Darlene Glymph. You may not have heard of Ms. Glymph before, but that could be because someone illegally ripped down her campaign signs. She is running against Kathy Henderson, who has previously been caught on tape ripping down the campaign signs of rivals. Henderson's also just an obstructionist for any business owner or resident who does not bow down to her wishes. If you live in 5D05 (part of Carver Terrace), please vote for Darlene Glymph. It's a vote for sane governance.

ugh. that's truly disheartening. did her daughter across the street win as well?

I believe her daughter ran unopposed. Kathy did win, but she had to be especially publicly dirty about it this year. She's been accused of voter intimidation, she violated multiple campaign laws, probably stole signs again, threatened to have a cop arrested for enforcing the law, and once again returns in an embarrassing video.

Does anyone know where I might find the ANC results?

DCBOEE has them up. Just click on the "results" link, but be warned that you might need to reload. The page is a tad hinky. Also, if a race is close, it will come down to absentee and special ballots.

I don't know why certain residents are singled out for attack on this blog, Taja Construction, Ms. Henderson (who by the way is a delight). Just seems like the antithesis of community to me. I jyay think that maybe some of us should start worrying about our run down houses and unkempt yards before worrying about the folks who are out there actually improving the neighborhood.

good luck with trying to improve the neighborhood in a positive way with henderson and her crazy antics.

the anc she was elected to represent voted her in. i find the whole thing VERY CONCERNING. you can't fix up broken down, with broken leadership and politics.

good luck. you'll need it, despite the support of folks that don't even live in that anc - like me.

i truly wish you all the best you can possibly make out of a really sad situation.

Kathy Henderson has been a neighbor in this neighborhood long before you carpet baggers came around! She works hard for the people who live here and not those looking to turn a profit. I was proud for Kathy, my friend.

Anon @ 1:29...carpet baggers, huh? Next time you see a guy who is here 'to turn a profit' picking up candy wrappers, beer cans, take out food containers, fruit drink boxes from this ANC area, why don't you come up to me and call me a carpet bagger? Or better yet, why don't you bend over and pick up some of the trash the 'people who live here' throw all over the streets and sidewalks beacuse the majority of 'the people who live here' don't give 2 damn cents about the neighborhood.

ANON 1:29 -

Were you also proud of Ms. Henderson when she was caught on video stealing election signs from a neighborhood business? Are you proud of her every time she makes a fool of herself in public with her personal attacks and strange conspiracy theories? Should we decide all of our ANC elections by tallying up years lived in the District, or should set our standards a little higher?

Kathy may be crazy but she did a hell of a job cleaning up her street. I think she is also partially responsible for the outcome of the Atlas Flats.

Kathy did clean up her street. I'm not saying that KH has never done a a good thing. I'm saying that I think it's going to cause massive problems on ANC5D to have her there.

I wouldn't give her credit for the Flats at Atlas. The Flats are the result of H Street development, and the streetcar. Clarke worked closely with the Office of Planning to make changes to the plans over the years.

If you watched KH in ANC meetings (or if you ever saw her get into her weekly shouting match with Wilhelmina Lawson at the PSA 504 meetings) you should know that she's incredibly disruptive, and vindictive. She's been caught on camera stealing campaign signs. She's currently accused of voter intimidation, and violating electioneering laws.

She's also repeatedly targeted Jimmy Valentine's, when there is no evidence that they have ever been disruptive to the neighborhood. Other business owners see this behavior, and it discourages them from opening businesses along Bladensburg Road. This seriously holds back much needed development along Bladensburg Road.

Too bad all this energy goes into opinions about an elected office that has little to no power. "Advisory"= no power. Who cares.

You would be surprised. ANCs can have a remarkably large impact on their areas.
