Chef Shuffle at the Queen Vic

DSC_0011

Chef Ian Reeves is leaving H Street's venerable British pub the Queen Vic (1206 H Street) effective January 6th. Reeves will reportedly head to the Columbia Heights location of Red Rocks Pizzeria before returning to helm the kitchen at their planned H Street Corridor restaurant (1348 H Street). The Queen Vic has an exciting new chef all lined up and ready to go, so you needn't miss a day of your bubble and squeak.

Looking at the place, friends don't believe me when I tell them the Vic has some of the very best food on H. That is, until I take them there and they taste for themselves.

anon why do you think that. they place is one of the nicest for appearance in the area. Much cleaner and nicer than Granville Moores. Vic has amazing food! GMoores has great food but not as good as it used to be. I hope Ryan gets a new chef. Besides great drinks the food was what made it a must on H Street. Smith Commons looks great from outside but the food is blah!!

In the very beginning of GM's existence here on H St NE, there food was great...then their first chef left after some type of dispute and the food starting going down hill fast. the last time I went there, I ordered a buffalo burger which they advertise as being cooked to medium rare...the server asked me how I wanted it and I said medium rare...well it came to me soo well done that it was like a hockey puck..I asked for it to be redone and it came back not much better...I figured that if they cannot cook a burger how they advertise or how I wanted it, then bye bye..and I have never been back..

12:00,
I promise that the Queen Vic has a new chef all lined up. I'm expecting a press release naming the new chef to come out very soon.

12:11,
The original chef was only at Granville's for two weeks. He was replaced by Teddy Folkman, who went on to become a bit of a celebrity, and enjoy much culinary praise. Folkman taking the helm was hardly a slide down.

I guess I'm in the minority- I think the food at Queen Vic is very hit-or-miss. In the last year it's been more miss.

You all realize that a person who cooks at a bar is not a chef. They are a cook.

Anon 9:33 -- Nope. Someone who cooks at a bar can be a cook, or can be a chef. It depends on what the bar is trying to do food-wise, and what the cook/chef is doing.
