There was a line all up in front of that place to get in last night.

yup. we walked in last night around 7 thinking we'd be able to get a table no problem with no reservations. little did we no that this was not an option. we were disappointed, but very happy for them and our neighborhood.

Everything was bumping around there last night. Big board and boundary road were full up too!

Le Grenier! Zut alors!

The host at the door greeted me with a typical closed-mouth french smile and showed me to my table. (You see, for me a reservation was not necessary as Madame Marie (Salut ma fille!) is my neighbor around the block. We often run into each other while out walking our Yorkies -- Yorkies à deux!)

I started off with La Canebière.....a passable seafood medly topped with aioli. It did not remind me of the very expensive bouillabases one now finds in the Vieux Port of Marseille. Nor did it remind me of the Canebière itself, which has mostly come to resemble Tunis on a hot summer day as of recent years.

En suite! The hanger steak with fries. Delicieux! I know i was hoping for a white sauce....maybe something au poivre, but was able to make it through the delicious fries.

En fin! The profiteroles. Scrumptious. That moment on my lips is worth the lifetime I'll spend a bikram yoga working it off!

En resumé, I'd rate this a solid 3/5. The restaurant decor is magnigique. Marie you have outdone yourself with this one!

Are we really going to have to start enduring unsolicited, nonsensical, stilted, and contrived pseudo-high-prose reviews for every restaurant mentioned on this blog from here on out?

Ugh, there goes the neighborhood, indeed! Zut alors!

I have a feeling I'm going to long for the days of incessant poo poo blather, maybe even the occasional tastelessness of tubbs.

to the person that wrote "wut^^" to my "ok" post, Dec 13, 2012 3:48:00 PM summed it up greatly!

to properly invoke my power, you need to say my name three times at the stroke of midnight, while leading a double dutch-rudder.

REALLY? TUBBS?

REALLY? things have really gone downhill around this joint. but i am here to serve, and as such, will bring back the incessant blather for which i am renowned.

and tubbs? he needs to up and take a long vacation at home in iowa, or indiana, or oklahoma, or from wherever he is clearly from.

ew.

What is a double Dutch rudder?

My "Wut" was supposed to be under Shelly's ridiculous review.

Why is a thoughtful review considered ridiculous? It was positive and interesting to read.

En francais, s'il vous plaît!

Anon 10:47: no, it was platitudinous, pretentious, pompous, and many other words starting with "p" that I can't be bothered to think of at the moment! Oh yeah, preposterous also.

Reasonable neighborhood blog review: I want to Le Grenier, food was great, had a really good steak, will definitely return.

Ridiculous mis-placed review by someone who thinks they are working for "Contrived Restaurant Review Magazine" : Zut alors! Yorkies a deux, in the Vieux Port of Marsielle! Maybe something au poivre!

En fin, indeed!

I think the yorkie loving critic might be a comedy act. If so I think it's pretty funny. If not its still entertaining

Yes, I highly doubt that Shelly actually lives down the street from both an owner of Taylor Charles Steak & Ice & an owner of Le Grenier (and all three own yorkies).

Yorkie a-three, woot alors

Also, the Vieux Port of Marseille was a tourist trap ten years ago, and probably still is.
