I'm getting multiple reports (and photos) of heavy MPD presence at 11th & H Street, but I do not have confirmation about what happened. Various people are repeating rumors about a possible stabbing on an X2 bus, with at least one version saying the victim was the driver. Does anyone have any more info about what is happening?

I will try to update this post as more info becomes available.

It's confirmed that there was a stabbing on the X2. Local resident and journalist Kriston Capps is on the scene.

The victim was a passenger on the X2 bus. The suspect is described as about 5'8", and maybe 200 pounds, with a dark-complexion. He had a bald head, and a beard. Last seen wearing black sweatpants, and a black hat, and carrying a black bag. The Washington Post reports that the victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

More Twitter chatter after the jump.

lets hope this was a one off event on the X-2

I drove past the parked police vehicles around 6:25 and saw yellow tape on the corner of 11th & H (presumably to stop pedestrians from walking through the crime scene.

I've never seen any violence occur on the X2, just a few instances of tough talk. This is sad.

Yeah, usually the X2 doesn't get _this_ bad. Usually it's just people spitting or puking, or yelling at people who aren't there, or yelling at people who _are_ there but have no association with the yeller and are just a randomly selected target. Still, though, the X2 is such a disaster even without a stabbing that I'm not surprised one took place.

Metro Police are really going to have to start arresting people for disturbing the peace on the X2.

The X2 is scary....like really scary. And this is another example of that.

Thuglife central on the X2, no law and order, no sense of safety. I avoid it whenever possible as I value my life and property. I pity those who are forced to roll the dice with their safety b/c they have no choice but to ride the route.

Anon 9:39 - OK, this X2 isn't THAT bad. Crowded in the mornings and it can get noisy with cell phone conversations and people that don't know how to control the volume of their voice, but I've never felt unsafe on it.

if you think the X-2 is scary, what 'til you see what they do to the new streetcar

I ride the X2 all the time, and have for years. It's prefectly safe. Stabbings happen on the Metro too. The fact that this was such big news illustrates just how rarely this type of incident really occurs.

The X2 is noisy, crowded, and has more litter than I see on some other lines, but I definitely have never felt physically afraid to be on one and nor should you. Most of the people on the X2 are just trying to get across town in peace. A handful of cell phone loud talkers and the occasional teenaged boy playing music out of his phone, yeah, stabbings? Heck no. I've never even seen a fistfight on the X2 and I hope I never do.

If the X2 came more frequently and there was less crowding, it would be a much better ride. Pretty much every bus on that route should be a "double-decker", ordinary sized buses can't handle the number of riders the X2 regularly attracts at all times of the day.

Sure his sweatpants, hat and bag weren't a dark-complexion? Why can't WaPo come right out say 'black'?

Because it is more descriptive to say dark complexion. Just like some white people are pale and others are tan

The X2 is scary. I'm looking forward to riding it again when I have to take public transit again. I may do better to walk than take that bus. I dread it and actually will walk a few blocks to take the D4 at 7th and K vice the X2 at H and 7th.

As for Dark complexion. I don't have issues with that. I do think using the word complexion is over kill. The man isn't made up of or composed of dark skin. He has dark skin. Why not just say dark skinned balled black guy in sweats.

The term darked- skinned black man is used so we know it wasn't Rick Fox or Barack Obama.

I've been harassed on the X2 before. Mostly it's just verbal, but one time it got physical and I was fondled inappropriately. I did end up calling the police, but my attacker got off the bus. Now if I have to ride it, I try to stay near other women.

I ride the X2 every week. it is gross. but it gets me where i want to go. the mix of "complexions" on the X2 has changed dramatically in the last two+ years. more diversity means i am not always the only pastey rider. there are fewer people staring at me like i just boarded the wrong bus.
