How cool! So that old "Birdland" sign as from AFTER 1988? That surprises me.

Tom, the Birdland sign is much newer that that. I remember when it went up (2005/2006).

I miss the gritty feeling of the old neighborhood.

wow Inked, that Birdland sign looked old almost immediately, and the business certainly didn't last long after that. 2006. It was closed when Taylor opened in uh... 2008?

Tom A.,
That sign always looked outdated, and it got busted up pretty quick after they closed.

The restaurant itself only lasted for a few months. They had some regulatory issues in the beginning. I recall them opening at the same that the Cluck-U chicken that became XII opened.

I went into Birdland not long after it opened and was standing in line. What I saw made me turn around and walk out..The dude that was cooking (with gloves on) also came to the cash register and took $$ from folks put it into the cash register, handed them their change and went back to cooking..all with the same gloves on. He never took them off..as soon as he handled the $$ he contaminated those gloves and then went he went back to touching food contaminated the food..GROSS
